This is what the past (Christmas!) week looked like.
Still living our best life in Fort Lauderdale.
We had just gotten out of the ocean and heard the lifeguard blowing his whistle...
We didn't think much of it until the lifeguard was right in front of our beach chairs waving people in.
I wanted to continue to swim so I wasn't interested in seeing a shark, but G followed the crowds to see why everyone had to get out of the water...
G waved me over and I'm so glad I didn't miss this.
It wasn't a shark, but a mom and baby manatees and one of the coolest experiences of my life!
Not your typical Monday.
I mentioned last week that we ended up on the Jungle Queen and Monday was that day.
It was the most relaxing 90 minutes cruising down the river looking at mansions and yachts...
Sipping cocktails out of tiki cups.
Fun fact: Wayne Huizenga, business owner of Waste Management (with a yacht named Business Stinks lol), AutoNation, and Blockbuster also owned three (!) sports teams (Miami Dolphins, Florida Panthers, and Miami Marlins).
His daughter loved Harry Potter so what does a millionaire do for her wedding?
Hires the set designers from Universal to design his daughter a Harry Potter inspired house, of course.
The wedding was hosted at this home and then gifted to his daughter (a $22M starter home!).
Draw bridge going up because of our boat.
Iguanas!
This is where Al Capone made landfall after smuggling spirits from the Caribbean during prohibition.
Of all the gorgeous mansions I think I would pick this one for the stunning lazy river.
Surprisingly delicious mahi mahi burger from the marina food court.
This was a cute beach read until the ending.
I just love the idea of Summer Suppers though and was so inspired by the idea of hosting each week of summer that I plan to do it this summer.
Fave quote:
"Champagne is a hostess's best friend. It pairs well with practically every dish, adds a general air of celebration to an evening, and tends to produce happy but not overly inebriated guests. I always have a case on hand. You never know when you might have something to celebrate. Or, more to the point, you never know when you might want to turn an ordinary day into a party."
Takeout from El Vez because the best part of staying at a hotel is eating in bed.
Still not over this view.
Ball of fire.
Brunch at Burlock Coast.
The best Huevos Rancheros I ever had.
Picture perfect.
Happy hour.
Another perfect beach day in the books.
Merry Christmas Eve!
Cacio e pepe pizza from Blue Steel Pizza Co was 10/10, no notes.
Last sunrise of the trip.
One last swim.
And just like that we were back at the airport.
Christmas dinner with my parents and Brad.
I think Manny is missing his grandparents.
Cookie deliveries from neighbors was a nice surprise.
50 degree weather was another lovely surprise that made the transition to reality a bit easier.
The ice is melting again.
Spot stealer.
Grilling weather.
There's no place like home.
Christmas celebration with the whole family.
My dad and I were very festive.
Gift time!
Benny's projector was a big hit.
Mischief makers.
The kiddos decorated gingerbread houses.
Some of the family were having a hot flash and went outside to cool down.
See also: those bare feet!
I love It's a Wonderful Life so I adored this take on the movie.
Fave quote:
"Everything I wanted was right in front of me, but I didn't see it. I was too busy looking ahead."
Growth is messy.
Yes!
Agreed.
"His faithfulness never ends."
I miss the sun already.
For more life lately:
