December Goals Revisited

December was a whirlwind, but also a really great month. Lets take a look back and see how I did with my goals.

1. Savor the season. I did feel I savored the season. Our house was decorated. The weather was so warm that I was able to take lots of walks around the neighborhood enjoying the lights. Christmas cookies were eaten. I watched the classic Christmas movies and became obsessed with Hallmark Christmas movies as well.

2. Bake Christmas cookies. Thank goodness for my sweet neighbor for putting it all together or I'm not sure it would have happened. But with her help we made peanut butter blossoms with a Reese Peanut Butter Cup in the center. They are delicious if I do say so myself!

3. Follow Weight Watchers. I did! It got a little tricky a few times with girls nights and brewery plans, but for the most part I stayed on track. I wanted to balance being healthy with enjoying this special season that only comes once a year. For me that meant getting a little off track and maintaining a bit in between losses and that is okay. I didn't throw in the towel and say I would get back on track in January. I never binge ate. That is success in my book. I savored the foods I really wanted, focused more on the people than the food, and lost a total of 4.5 pounds last month.

4. Cook once a week. I did make a killer spinach and artichoke dip twice this month so there's that. Progress, right?

5. Give your best yes. This goal came out of reading Year of Yes by Shonda Rhimes. I know the feeling all too well of saying no just because I do not want to get out of my comfort zone. It's still a struggle if I'm being honest. Saying yes is a delicate balance of doing what is life giving and what stretches you. It's not saying yes to everything for the sake of being busy and getting worn out. I said yes a lot this past summer and because of it I felt we really lived. We created great memories I will never forget. Then I intentionally slowed down in the fall and was ready to start giving my best yes again. This month I said yes to asking our neighbors out for dinner. Yes to baking cookies. Yes to multiple girls nights in a week. Yes to dinners with friends. Yes to Weight Watchers. Yes to Tequila Cowboys. Yes to developing and presenting a new idea at work. I created amazing memories. I got out of my comfort zone and because of that I became stronger. I'm proud of all I accomplished this past month. It was stretching to be sure. But it is making me the woman I want to become so it's all worth it.

How did you do with your goals this month?
