April Goals Revisited

How is it May already? Where did April go? I feel like this year is just flying by! Lets see how I did this month...

1. Clean and organize the guest closet. I'm going to blame being busy for the reason this didn't get done. But I rather say yes to an impromptu dinner date with friends. I found a neat little trick to dealing with the guest closet mess: Shut the closet door and walk away. It works every time! Seriously, I need to stop putting this off. Next month it will happen!

2. Lose eight pounds this month. I lost three pounds this month so I seriously need to up my game. Seeing myself tagged in unflattering Facebook pictures over the weekend was just the wake up call I needed to get strict and buckle down. IT'S ON. For real.

3. Do one craft this month. I made a yarn wreath and loved it. Sadly, it fell off the door and broke and I'm yet to make or buy another one. I found some good options on Amazon, but not one I'm so in love with I'll spend $60. I also checked out Hobby Lobby and found one I loved, but it was $130. No thanks. So I'm still on the hunt. Or maybe I'll cave and make another once since I have leftover yarn. I gotta do something because my door feels so bare right now.

4. Make one new recipe a week. Does making Trader Joe meals count as trying new recipes? I have lost my cooking groove and I'm trying to get it back. I'll get inspired and find a recipe I want to make and write all the ingredients down and get to the store and feel so overwhelmed that I don't buy any of the ingredients. Luckily G hasn't lost his inspiration so he'll make a meal or two each week and we get a lot of leftovers from it. But I'm starting to give myself grace on this. If I'm not inspired to cook I shouldn't feel like I have to. If I eat healthier when I get takeout
than I'll get takeout. I just want to do what is best for my family and if this makes me happy and doesn't stress me out than it's a good choice. Maybe I'll get inspired to cook again soon, but in the meantime I'll embrace the stage I'm in.

5. Read 3 books this month. I reread Heart of the Matter by Emily Giffin and didn't enjoy it as much as I did the first time I read it. But it kept my interest and was very well written. I read Daring Greatly by Brene Brown and it was life changing. I couldn't put it down so I finished it in two days. I loved it so much I wrote this post and had great discussions with G on different topics from the book. I'm finishing up Big Little Lies by Liane Moriarty right now and it's amazing. I wish I didn't have to work and I could read it all the time because I want to know how it ends! I think it's my favorite book of hers so far, but I may say that after I finish everyone of her books.

6. Plan something fun each weekend. We were more intentional about getting out and having fun each weekend. We enjoyed a free week at a fancy gym and went out to lunch with friends afterwards. We went out to the bar with friends to watch MSU. We went out for sushi and saw Phantom of the Opera. I had a little girls' shopping trip and wine night. We went on a spontaneous weekend getaway to Grand Rapids. Whew! Looking back it was a really fun-filled month! I felt like I truly lived in the present and I'm proud of that.

7. Check out a few new churches. We were so busy this month. I overbooked us and not only was G burnt out but so was I. It was all really fun stuff, but it made it really hard to carve out time to try a new church. We did the old church online thing which isn't terrible, but it's not the same. I miss the fellowship of going to church. I need to make this more of a priority next month.

8. Get my hair did. I was indecisive on what to get done, but luckily I had a great hair stylist who wouldn't let me chop it all off. I'm so glad I kept my hair long. There are days I hate all the tangling and work of long hair, but there is just so much more to do with long hair. I really just don't have the face for short hair if I'm being completely honest. I got my hair colored this awesome red/purple color and I'm obsessed.

How did you do with your goals this month?

I love the idea of mixing up your hair and going for a funky new look! Go for it! I need to get mine done something awful before summer gets here.
