Life Lately: Week 51

This is what the past week looked like.

Spent the night at my parents' house after seeing Wicked.

Squirrel sighting. ;)

Loving the creativity here.

The ultimate girl dinner: tofu and sweet potatoes baked in the oven with cottage cheese mixed with a bit of garlic and lemon.

Waiting for his dad to come home.

The best day of the year is when my Bath and Body Works candles deliver.

I adored this book so much that it's easily in my top three books of the year.

To do list after reading:

1. Improve penmanship.

2. Buy stamps.

3. Start writing letters again.

Fave quotes:

"There are, by definition, four seasons that repeat in measured pattern year after year. As there is no such rhythm in the human life, I have to think that when it comes to seasons we all get one round. We are born and grow through childhood in spring. We live those glorious, lively, interesting years of our twenties, thirties, forties in summer. We settle into ourselves in autumn, that cool but not yet cold time, rich and aromatic. And in winter we age (brutally) and die."

"It was absolutely freezing in the building, something men do in summer, turning women to popsicles."

"When you find a place for yourself in the world, it feels like music."

"It isn't as if I'm in my twenties and just beginning a life, making those choices that become the pavers of a path which you walk."

These taste pretty darn good for having 18g of protein.

Hello neighbor!

Adulting is painting the walls to make the space brighter and buying a new couch because comfort matters.

Girl dinner x2.

Hot tubbing while it pours rain outside and melts all the snow.

Thoughtful gift from work.

Our favorite winter recipe.

The best part about our new couch is it turns into a bed which is ideal for family snuggles during movie nights.

This popcorn is better than Skinny Pop.

“Two roads diverged in a wood, and I - I took the one less traveled by, and that has made all the difference.” - Robert Frost -

Quick trip downtown to run some errands.

This was a quick read, but not my favorite thriller.

Fave quote:

"Whoever said money doesn't buy happiness is probably right, but I bet they had money. It might not buy happiness, but it must take the edge off."

Our sweet neighbors across the lake left champs on our doorstep.

Oh What Fun was so much fun.

The Wang family's version of Silent Night was pure magic.

Joy to the world.

Family Christmas celebration.

My favorite snuggle bud.

Snacky lunch.

We played several lively rounds of “get the snowballs in the basket.”

Good times had by all.

Sister sister.

A girl and her weighted cow.

Sunday supper.

Merry Christmas from our family to yours.

Winter nights glow a little brighter.

Podcase recommendation of the week.

Hear are a few of my takeaways:

"Making mistakes makes you ready to learn."

"Teach what you've learned to your spouse, your couch, your dog to solidify your memory and expose gaps of your understanding."

"You learn when you're sleeping."

Day 1: Bring 100% focus for 30-45 minutes, then teach it to yourself or somebody, and then repeat as needed.

Get a good night sleep.

Day 2: Review briefly in the morning (10-15 min) and in the afternoon quiz yourself by asking chat GPT to quiz you.

Day 3: Teach to someone else.

Mental glue helps memory by linking something new to something you already know.

Routine makes time feel faster because the brain encodes familiar events weakly, creating few distinct memories, while slowing down happens with novelty and intense focus, as new experiences are richly detailed and stretch our perception, making time feel fuller and longer when we look back.

New favorite motto.

Jesus is the reason for the season.

Still thinking about this.

Wherever you are, be all there.

What a beautiful perspective.

Life in a poem.

100 percent yes.

Convicting.

This made me smile.

Bahaha.

This made me lol.

I feel seen.
