This is what the past week looked like.
It was a tough week trying to get home from Chicago, the two year anniversary of G's mom's death, extreme cold and snow, and Manny gave us a huge scare.
The week started out with MLK Day off enjoying our last day in Chicago.
An epic breakfast at Travelle.
And a relaxing morning at the spa.
It was -20 outside so this picture in our hotel had me wishing for spring.
Parting is such sweet sorrow.
We were halfway home when we started to see our traffic app turn orange to red and G's team was talking about whiteout conditions and 94 being a sheet of ice.
We checked in at The Inn at Harbor Shores (again lol) and had another round of blue margs and a delightful dinner at Planks Tavern.
Turning lemons into lemonade.
Thankful our pet sitter was understanding and let M stay longer.
The next morning after a few laps in the pool and dip in the hot tub we grabbed breakfast sandwiches from Rise and Vine.
We started to head home again and the roads were even worse and 94 shut down so we stopped again for one more night.
Working from a hotel was not on my bingo card, but we adapted.
We finally made it home Wednesday (and even still went through icy spots) and picked up M.
There's no place like home.
The dog sitter mentioned M woke up panting and arching his back.
This video just breaks my heart because even though M is eleven, he acts like a puppy so seeing him struggling to move is so not like him.
We went to the vet and he thinks M pinched a nerve in his neck or activated arthritis in his old age.
He is on meds and slowly returned to his normal self.
Thanks goodness because every time he got up to eat or go outside I would just cry.
I hated seeing him in so much pain, but I'm so thankful for G who is was our rock through all of this.
Re-read this book for a work book club and I think I liked it even better the second time.
Fave quotes:
"What scares me more than feeling it all is missing it all. I don't want to live my life without living my life."
"What is the truest, most beautiful story about your life you can imagine?"
"Ed Sheeran gave up his phone because...he wants to see the world through his own eyes instead of through a screen."
"Every time you are given a choice between disappointing someone else and disappointing yourself, your duty is to disappoint someone else."
"What if we let ourselves feel it all? What if we decided that it is our strength - not weakness - to let other people's pain pierce us?"
"Judgement is just another cage we live in so we don't have to feel, know, and imagine."
When the tree fell on our house in 2023 we had the tree guy assess the property for any other dead trees and he called out this cotton tree.
It was not on our property, but we let the HOA know and this weekend it came down.
The tree was hollow so they couldn't climb it so they attached ropes to it and started sawing the tree base.
I was terrified it would land on our house and after the week we had it wouldn't have surprised me.
It was good entertainment to see the equipment on the ice removing the tree.
This wine felt appropriate after M's rough day(s).
This was a cute read.
Fave quote:
"There's a surprising intimacy to living with someone, I realized, bearing witness to their in-between moments before they ready themselves for the world."
My loves.
Pretty girl with her pretty decorated cookies.
Ella is eleven!!
Outtake one.
Outtake two.
Love.
Yes!
I'm herbal tea, which one are you?
"They went out and happened to things."
This is so me.
So true.
Longest month of the year.
Haha.
It's funny because it's true.
Me too.
It's probably just a Super Bowl commercial, but I'll take it.
Whyyyy?
IYKYK.
I feel seen.
For more life lately:
