It sure doesn't feel like fall with these temps nearing 80 degrees and I love it. Long live summer! Despite what the weather is doing, it is October. October! Where is this year going? Before I start with my goals for October, lets take a look back at September and see how I did.
1. Do the 21 Day Fix. I've done diets for over ten years. The newest diet hits the market and I'm excited to give it a try. Now, I'm not bashing The 21 Day Fix. It is working for people and that is always a good thing. We all have to find what works for us because that is the only way it will last. The day I was going to start is the day I started reading Naturally Thin and everything just clicked for me. It wasn't take out or wine or garlic bread that made me fat. It was TOO MUCH of any one thing that will make you fat. I was done eliminating foods or restricting things that I loved. I just had to watch the portions more carefully. Learn when I was satisfied. Learn when the food wasn't tasting as good as it once was and stop eating. Fill up on veggies first. I have eaten the foods I loved, drank wine and still lose consistently each week without feeling an ounce of deprivation. That is success to me. That is something I can do forever. No more deprivation. No more starvation. Freedom!!!
2. No take out. Fail. This lasted a week. We do eat out considerably less. I cook at least three times a week now and leftovers a few nights as well. I'm really into green smoothies in the morning and I get at least 3 servings of veggies a day and 2 servings of fruit so if I don't feel like cooking or don't get around to it we get take out and it's not the end of the world. It's something I enjoy. The main reason I set this goal was because I was planning on doing the fix and it advised against it. But after reading Naturally Thin I realized if it's something I love I can still have it. The trick? I measure out a portion (usually a cup or a cup and half, sometimes I go back for another cup if I'm still starved), eat slowly and take sips of water or wine between bites, and eat a big bowl of veggies before. Following that advice I can get four meals out of Chinese or Thai food and that is $7 well spent. I don't feel deprived and I'm not famished because I ate mindfully and enjoyed every bite and filled up on veggies first.
3. Blog three times a week. Check! I'm really enjoying only blogging when I feel inspired to blog. It feels like a hobby again and I love that.
4. Read three books a month. Check! I read The Wedding Night by Sophie Kinsella, Naturally Thin by Bethenny Frankel, and #GirlBoss by Sophia Amoruso. Naturally Thin was by far my favorite. Life changing, even. If you struggle with food and weight I really recommend this book! The Wedding Night and #GirlBoss were fun reads, but they weren't can't-put-my-book-down-it's-so-good.
5. Go to church. Check! It's so nice to be back!
6. Lose ten pounds this month. That week long vacation the first week of September really ruined me. But I'm back at it and ready to lose the weight once and for all now. You can read here why this time it will stick. I did lose 3.6 pounds this month and I'm happy with that. Since I got serious about it I've been losing every week so I know what I'm doing is working.
7. Go to the Farmer's Market. MAJOR fail. October is the last month so I better get to it!
What are your goals this month?

I don't know why, but for some reason my blog feed NEVER shows your posts! It's driving me crazy. BUT I'm glad to find that you're still posting. :D And as far as your approach to food and losing weight? I am SO thrilled that you've just found something that works and doesn't seem like a huge burden anymore. Ya know? That's so awesome. I think I've said this before, but I really need to start posting my month's goals online, too. It's a good way to ensure accountability and measure progress. :)
