Weekend Update

This weekend was so much fun. There is just nothing like the first day of the year when the temps hit 70 degrees. Everyone is outside. The windows are open. The sun is shining. We reconnect with our neighbors we haven't seen all winter. Spirits are lifted. Seriously, it is just the best time.

We started out our Saturday morning sleeping in and drank our coffee. Then we hiked over to our local beach for a picnic.

It was so refreshing to see the water not frozen. To hear the waves. Watch the boats and admire the beautiful houses on the lake and daydream about owning a home on the water someday.

We came back home and I laid on the deck reading a magazine and enjoyed a glass of iced tea while Garth worked hard on the yard. He mowed the lawn for the first time this year and then cleaned out this area on the side of our house so we can start planting seeds for our vegetable garden.

I wish I took before pictures because this area was filled with so many weeds and a rose bush. It was a lot of work, but it is worth it! It looks great. Next up we are going to get a little fence to fully protect the area from rabbits and then chose our veggies to start planting. I think we will grow tomatoes, cucumbers and zucchini.

Garth joined me on the deck afterwards to relax for a bit and then we cleaned up and headed to a local restaurant to meet friends for dinner.

The food was excellent. The company was great. There was even live music to enjoy. After dinner we all came back to our house for a big bonfire. We burned all the weeds Garth had dug up and it ended up being a great big fire without mosquitoes. We had a great time that we all ended up being at the fire until midnight! I can't remember the last time I stayed up that long. Ha! I'm so old.

How was your weekend?

Everybody cheers up when the sun comes out! Unfortunately it rained for me all weekend, but I am hoping for a pretty one this weekend!
