Wedding Wednesday

I think the main struggle Garth and I have is being more creative with our time. After we bought our house we became extreme home bodies. After a long week we loved to curl up on the couch and watch a movie. We watched HGTV while we ate dinner after work every night. Saturday mornings consisted of coffee and TV. Did you sense a theme?

Back in our first year of marriage we never watched TV. We did not have cable and our little TV only got about one good channel. And we swore we would never be those people that watched TV all the time. FAIL. Enter the soccer channel and Bravo and we became couch potatoes. We settled into suburbia and loved our home so much we much rather just stay in and cook together or get take-out. We would try to make a date night once a week, but that usually consisted of going out to dinner. Not that there is anything wrong with that, but we were in a rut. Doing what was comfortable. Dare I say even a bit lazy?

We have put an end to that this year. This is our year of fun. Before we make any crazy decisions about dogs or kids. We are free. No obligations But we sure don’t live like that. There is nothing wrong with loving your home and being a home body either. We just felt we needed to step out of our comfort zone and LIVE a little bit more.

So far here are some of the things we have done to break the rut:

Saw The Avengers at the theater

Vacation in the Smoky’s - This is something we have always wanted to do, but finally took the initiative to plan and actually DO it.

Attend our local winery for a tasting

Learn to cook

Take walks after dinner

Dance in the kitchen for no reason at all

Slowly but surely we are making progress. Here is a list of a few more ideas we plan to tackle this year in an effort to be more creative and have more fun as a couple:

Attend a country concert
Watch karaoke
Go line dancing
Canoe
Plan a picnic at the park
Go to a play
Plan a weekend trip to Traverse City
Take a dance class
Play tennis
Take a dinner boat trip
Attend an outdoor concert

For more ideas, check out this siteI encourage you and your spouse to get out of the comfort zone and try something you have always wanted to do. If you have any ideas please share them! I know I won’t look back at my life and think, “I wish I spent more time watching TV.” I love the memories we have made already and look forward to the many more we are yet to create.

As Keith Urban sang,
"And I'm gonna love you
Like nobody loves you
And I'll earn your trust
Makin' memories of us."

Me and the hubs used to always go bowling. Now that I saw it on your list, I have realized that we don't do that anymore... and we have one in our town! Thanks for the inspiration again!!!! I love reading you blog so much!

Great post, my hubs and I recently bought a house and I totally see us falling into the pattern of always staying home, etc. I'm really going to try to put some of your ideas to work!

Watch Karoke? No way dude, you got to sing karoke!!!! :)
We did this yesterday and it was one of the most fun days ever: Take a random Wednesday off work and go downtown, splurge on a fancy lunch and dinner, maybe even happy hour, spend the non-eating times going to the park and reading or people watching, walk around, window shop, etc. Enjoy your downtown like you can't on a weekend when it's super crowded, you'll love it!
