Yesterday I drove into downtown Plymouth to pick up Panera for a lunch meeting. Now you must know I'm a modern woman and I don't expect a man to open a door for me. My husband has always opened doors for me since our first date. It's how he was raised and I appreciate that he does this. But I don't expect it from anyone else.
BUT I am still in disbelief about what happened while I was leaving Panera. I am holding a huge box of sandwiches, chips, cookies, etc. with a big bag on top of this box with forks, naptkins, salad and bread. A man is going to the door at the same time I am, with nothing in his hands, and proceeds to WAIT for me to OPEN THE DOOR FOR HIM! I struggle to kick open the door since I don't have any hands free. My purse is now falling off my shoulder as I struggle to keep the door open for him. He doesn't even utter a thank-you! In the words of Stephanie from "Full House": HOW RUDE!

What a jerk!!
I think I would have stood there and made him open the door!
That isn't even chivalry is dead - that is just a person who doesn't know a thing about common decency!
Oh I'd be pissed and would have let the door slam on him - but I'm like that.
I can't believe that! Well I guess I can but what a jerk!! Did you give him a look on your way out?
That's messed up.... didn't his momma teach him anything?
ew what a jerk!

My inner mean-ness would have come out! I would have probably said something and tripped him :)
Hello! Great Post! I totally agree, I'm not looking to be swooned over by a total stranger, but HELLO! Even if you were a man and he didn't help it was stil RUDE!
I saw you on Country Mouse. She is my sister. Check me out on Blueberry's blog. Just getting into blogging!
grrrrr...that's so aggrevating. its insane how much the "its all about me" attitude has engulfed this nation.
Hey! Thanks for the recessional suggestion...we picked your song! I promised a thank you card so if you'd like to email me your address, I'd love to send one to you!

ps...thanks for the sweet note on my blog about the dinner! but i did not make that big feast...totally stole it from google images :) but i do make meals like it!!!
I agree - how rude! I actually went to a school for a semester where chivalry was so alive guys would actually run in front of you (even sprint) just to open the door for you. That was honestly a bit much for me - but this was just plain rude!
Girl, I'd have opened my mouth and said something to him for sure. There's no reason for people to be jerks!
Thanks for your nice comment on my blog!
Wow, that is ridiculous!
NO WAY. I would have had a really hard time not making a comment to him!
Holy cow!! Are you kidding??
