Chivalry is Dead

Yesterday I drove into downtown Plymouth to pick up Panera for a lunch meeting. Now you must know I'm a modern woman and I don't expect a man to open a door for me. My husband has always opened doors for me since our first date. It's how he was raised and I appreciate that he does this. But I don't expect it from anyone else.

BUT I am still in disbelief about what happened while I was leaving Panera. I am holding a huge box of sandwiches, chips, cookies, etc. with a big bag on top of this box with forks, naptkins, salad and bread. A man is going to the door at the same time I am, with nothing in his hands, and proceeds to WAIT for me to OPEN THE DOOR FOR HIM! I struggle to kick open the door since I don't have any hands free. My purse is now falling off my shoulder as I struggle to keep the door open for him. He doesn't even utter a thank-you! In the words of Stephanie from "Full House": HOW RUDE!

I think I would have stood there and made him open the door!

That isn't even chivalry is dead - that is just a person who doesn't know a thing about common decency!

Oh I'd be pissed and would have let the door slam on him - but I'm like that.

I agree - how rude! I actually went to a school for a semester where chivalry was so alive guys would actually run in front of you (even sprint) just to open the door for you. That was honestly a bit much for me - but this was just plain rude!

Girl, I'd have opened my mouth and said something to him for sure. There's no reason for people to be jerks!

Thanks for your nice comment on my blog!
