Life Lately

So we joined Sam's Club. I always feel like we're spending too much at Walmart or Kroger or Meijer and always running out of everything. I saw a deal on Groupon for Sam's and bit the bullet. I hope it saves us money and maybe saves me weekly grocery trips. We'll see. Do you shop at Sam's? What are your must buys?

It was 78 degrees on Saturday and Wednesday it was 37 degrees and snowing. Typical, Michigan. Manny was just as unhappy about it as I was. After our snowy, chilly walk he ran upstairs and buried himself under all the blankets.

I wrote a post on being introverted and a comment-er said I might have social anxiety. It really got me thinking. I did a lot of self evaluation, research and had a few discussions with people I trust. Per WebMD, "Social anxiety disorder, also called social phobia, is an anxiety disorder in which a person has an excessive and unreasonable fear of social situations. Anxiety (intense nervousness) and self-consciousness arise from a fear of being closely watched, judged, and criticized by others." Based on that definition I do not think I have a social anxiety disorder. I do not fear being closely watched, judged or criticized. I do not enjoy large crowds and finding parking in large crowds and trying to make sure I get to where I need to be and not be late. But once I'm in my seat I'm perfectly content. Able to enjoy the show. It's not about the specific people, it's about the situation. The logistics. Anyways, all that to say it was interesting to research. It was good to understand what social anxiety was so I can monitor my reactions to things and make sure they are health reactions.

I started reading Big Little Lies by Liane Moriarty and I already love it. Her books are just so well written and I can't put them down. Love it!!

What did you think of the ACM Awards? I love Miranda Lambert so much. And Eric Church. And Little Big Town. And Taylor Swift. Okay, I just love country music PERIOD.

I walk on lunch and we walk pretty fast. We average a 16 minute mile walking pace. So my SIL and brother are running the Detroit Marathon and G was encouraging me to do it too. I protested that I hate running and he said I could walk the marathon at my pace and finish in a little over four hours. Obviously my pace would probably slow down with the longer distance, but it made me seriously think about it. Then I read an article yesterday about what you need to know before you train for a marathon. One of the first points was not to do a marathon if you already have an existing injury. And I have this stupid thigh strain that happened in T25 and flares up every once and a while if I do a lot of jumping or standing or walking. So it's probably not the best idea to do a marathon, even if I'm walking. Oh darn. I'm so heartbroken. NOT. I love to cheer on marathon runners so that's just what I'll do.

Seriously - I know I have commented in AGES, but I so wish we lived nearby. I struggle with the same sort of things (and took the quiz when you posted it). I like being around people and being social, but the logistics and large crowds also stress me out. I love staying home, but I love having a few close people over as well. The word "networking" used to freak me out! I have gotten a little more used to it and do it so rarely anyway. I learned to just ask people questions about them and it takes the pressure off of me!

My neighborhood book club just read The Husband's Secret and loved it so we are reading Big Little Lies next month :)

Anyway, wanted to pop in and say hi!

Geez! I feel like more i tend towards introversion and appreciate some alone time, and don't want to go out in crowds cause it's busy and crazy. Not that I'm "afraid". Anyway, glad you were able to turn a careless comment into learning more about yourself! We are reading The Rosie Project and it was cute and funny

I want to one day run a marathon. I need to get my butt moving to start off with a 5K first. :)

Pretty sure you'd finish closer to 7 hours. Actual runners have tomaintain a pace of nine minute mile an hour to even try to break four hours so thatcalculations a little off

I am just catching up on reading but we recently bit the bullet and joined Sams as well (after going on and off with a family member for a while). My favorite things to buy there are the bulk produce (but there are great deals to be found all over the store if you know your prices)

But seriously, I am able to load up on fruit, salad, vegetables, eggs, etc for very competitive prices and not feel like I am breaking the bank. I love that their items change seasonally too so there's always something new to be found in the club.

They will sometimes have really great deals on clothes ($14 for an Under Armour hoodie!?!) or deals on gift cards ($50 for $40)

Their gas prices are also very competitive.
