Our Monday

Here is the story about Garth who woke up, went to work, and started to notice his jaw getting swollen and numb. Clearly, this is not normal so I took him to a walk-in clinic in the area. We waited about forty minutes and filled out mountains of paperwork only to see the doctor for LITERALLY five minutes.

This particular doctor was crazy. He didn't look inside Garth's mouth or behind his ears where he was swollen. Nope. He looked at his cheeks and declared that he wasn't sure, but this was probably just a follicle infection and prescribed the strongest medication he could. This doctor could not tell us why he had this condition either. He said, and I quote, "It's like when the girl gets a zit on her forehead the day of prom. Who knows why these things happen. They just do."

WHAT?! You don't know why he has this. You aren't even sure he has this condition. You only looked at Garth's face for a mere five minutes and you want to give him the strongest medication possible to see if it helps.

I don't think so. We left there angry and frustrated. I called our family doctor and made an appointment later that afternoon. On the drive over I needed a bit of a pick-me-up:

We did more waiting at our family doctor. We knew it was probably nothing. WebMD said it would be a tick or spider bite, allergic reaction or tumor. Of course I went to the worst case scenario. Our family doctor thought the walk-inc clinic doctor was hilarious! After much poking, prodding and testing it was determined Garth just had an allergic reaction that turned into an infection. He was advised to take an ibprofen to reduce the swelling.

Quite the opposite diagnosis! It is alarming how off the walk-in doctor was and how quick he was to offer a prescription. I actually heard from co-workers that this walk-in clinic doctor is notorious for just giving out medication for things as simple as a cold. That is crazy!

So that was our Monday. Kinda crazy, turned hilarious. We washed our sheets, pillows and duvet cover when we got home to just make sure Garth didn't have another allergic reaction. I usually put the duvet cover back on, but I caught Garth trying to do it and I had to take photos because it is so funny.

He started out okay...

But then it started going downhill fast...

Faster...

But he did it!

I'm hoping your Monday was less eventful! And I'm thankful it was just an allergic reaction and not something more serious.

Oh no! I try to stay away from WebMD just for that 'freak out' reason!

I'd call the clinic & talk to them about some sort of refund - that's ridiculous that sort of treatment... especially after you wait & then they don't even give you an answer... that stuff is exactly why I never go to the doctor.

Thats hilarious about the duvet cover - it can be quite tricky if you don't have much practice or a method that works for you!

Wow, that is odd about the walk-in Dr. I've usually found the ones I visit are more thorough than our family Dr. because they don't have patients lining up outside the doors. Anyhow, the pics of him putting on the duvet made me crack up.
