The
marathon is THIS weekend. How crazy is that?! There are 1,500 people running
for World Vision and 225 are from our church.
Last week World Vision surpassed 1 million dollars raised for clean water in Africa. How cool is that?! There
is still time if you want to donate to the awesome cause. Just click here.
I
have a much greater respect for Garth after running three miles on Saturday. I
ran three miles and I can still barely walk. My legs are on fire. Even my abs
hurt. So we went to this abandoned track across from a lake in our city. It was
perfect because Garth could run at his pace and I could run at mine, but we
were still together.
If
you know me at all, you know I hate to run. Loathe it with a passion. But I
know it’s the best type of exercise there is. I got to my goal weight running everyday
so I know I needed to pick it up again. And having a lake to look at while I
ran made it so much better because I love water.
Garth’s
training this week consists of short 2 to 3 mile runs so I have been joining
him on the runs and I love being outside. It is such a nice change from the
living room watching Tony Horton on TV. Feeling the wind across my face.
Watching the boats glide effortlessly along the lake. Hearing the sound of my
shoes hitting the pavement. Smelling the fresh, crisp fall air.
I
like that we are starting to run together and we plan on continuing it after
the marathon as well. I just have such a respect for Garth if I’m hurting after
3 miles. I cannot even imagine how he felt after a half marathon. Fifteen
miles. Twenty miles. And now 26.2 this weekend. He has been so disciplined with
his running and sacrificing the time it takes to work up to that amount of
running. Words cannot express how proud I am of him and this accomplish. He
never gave up. Even after the back injury that had him sleeping in a chair
every night. He kept going. For Africa. For Kessia. To prove to himself he
could do it.
Bring. It. On.
