P90X: Day 1

I have completed day one of P90X and I absolutely love it! There are three different versions of doing the program – the Classic, Lean, or Doubles schedule. I chose to follow the Lean schedule so today started with Core Synergetic. I knew this would mean planks, but I had no idea it would mean SO many variations of plank and push-up moves. I knew it would be hard, but I didn’t know I would feel like getting sick. Or be dripping with sweat by the end of the 58 minutes. Oh yeah, and it was LONG. I’m used to 35 minute videos max so this was an adjustment. But you know what? I loved every second of it.

Tony is funny and nice and so completely different than Jillian Michaels. It was a nice change of pace. I think I only recognized two moves from my other videos. Everything was different which is probably what I loved the most. And difficult. Did I mention that? It was hard. I love intense videos though. I like working hard and pushing myself. I’m already sore. I cannot even image what cardio is going to be like tomorrow. Oh Lord, help me!

I also like how Tony tells you how long you are going to be doing a move and you see how far along you on the video. I like knowing what to expect so I like knowing I only have to do this move for one minute. I like that Tony encourages you to go at your own pace and work up to doing full reps. This was encouraging because some of the moves were so hard I could barely do them, but knowing that after a couple months I will was reassuring.

A meal plan comes with the video and Garth and I are following it loosely. I am an extremely picky eater and a lot of the food I just don’t like. For example, most of the dinner options are salmon, sword fish and halibut. I’m not a huge fan of seafood so I will modify with other healthy options like grilled chicken, etc. Another problem I found with the meal plan is how time intensive it is. I do not feel like making seafood, a salad, a soup and protein shake for dinner. That is just too much work and I know I will not stick with it.

I am a relatively healthy eater, I just get caught up on portion control so my plan is to stick with most of my usual dinners – chicken stir fry, chicken chili, black bean soup, etc. but watch my portions carefully. This will also mean eating more during the day. I am notorious at snacking most of the day, but I think eating more filling (healthy) meals during the day will help me avoid overeating during the evening.

For example, my meal plan for today is the following:
7:00 a.m. Two eggs with a Weight Watchers Light String Cheese and coffee with Splenda and a splash of fat-free milk (235 calores)
9:30 a.m. An apple and WW Light String Cheese (130 calories)
12:00 p.m. The Best Sandwich Ever, carrots & Yoplait Yogurt (415 calories)
3:00 p.m. Almonds (170 calories)
6:00 p.m. Chicken Chili & Spinach Salad with Annie’s Italian dressing (450 calories)
Total: 1400 calories

My goal is to lose thirty pounds. I want to be toned and fit. This isn’t to say I’m fat or that I’m unhappy with who I am right now. I just want to be my most comfortable and in the best shape of my life. I want to watch my portions and feel great. I want to be toned and see my happy, healthy weight and jean size again. I’m ready. I’m pumped!

Lindsey good luck with P90x, you can do it!!!

so I had a random dream last night: all our friends were celebrating your 5 year anniversary (which I can't even remember if you've been married 4 or 5 now??) but we surprized you guys with a crib filled with diapers and toys. You were happy crying and jumped up into Garth's arms. And I was asking if you were pregnant and you said 'not yet'. But obviously ready to start!

Isn't that SO wierd??

Will this mean you will be less self judging?

I'm super glad you like Tony, because I thought he was WAY annoying!

We didn't follow the meal plan either- it's crazy rigorous and would have been super expensive!

This is encouraging! Yay for healthy lifestyles!
