Garth and I spontaneously decided to take a day
trip to Grand Haven last Sunday. We put on our swimsuits, packed our beach bag
and took off around 10:30 in the morning. It was only a two hour drive so we
arrived anxious to see Lake Michigan and starving.
We found parking and stopped at Butch’s BeachBurritos for chicken burritos and then
continued on to the beach. We walked about half a mile down the beach to the
perfect spot, laid out our blankets and took a dip in the water. It was really
rough with lots of waves and boats and the water was so refreshing.
We came back to our towels to dry off and eat our
burritos. SO. GOOD. I loved it! We laid in the sun, people watched, took naps,
went in water about five more times, walked down the beach, worked on our tan,
and before we knew it it was 6:00 and we were hungry again.
We packed up and made the long haul back to our
car to unload our beach gear. We walked around downtown Grand Haven and decided
we were both craving pasta. After all day in the sun we had worked up quite the
appetite and bread and pasta is just what the doctor ordered. We went to PortoBello after a couple locals recommended it to us. It was amazing! Garth declared
their bread the best he had ever had. That is huge coming from a diehard Olive
Garden fan.
After a delicious dinner we stopped next door to
get an Iced Mocha and made our trek back home. We were home by 10:00 with
bellies full, sunburns, and happy hearts. We need to do these little day trips more
often!
