Traverse City Vacay.

We vacationed in Traverse City. It is, hands down, our favorite city in all of Michigan. The beauty of Lake Michigan is amazing because the water compares to that of the Carribbean. It's so clear and blue I forget I'm in Michigan!
We stayed at the lovely Cherry Tree Inn and had a suite on the water:
This was our view for the last few days: Lucky us, right?
Garth and I had every intention to go to Glen Arbor to cross-country skii and eat at our favorite restaurant over there, Boone Docks. But we got super lazy on this vacation and spent our days relaxing in the hotel, eating fabulous food, and walking around the city in the balmy 40 degree weather.
Oh, and we played games and enjoyed quality time together: On first day we ate at the BEST Mexican at Red Mesa for some unbelievably good fajitas. For dinner that night we enjoyed take-out pizza from That'sa Pizza while watching The Golden Globes. Perfection.
The next day we went to North Peak so Garth could get his beer sampler. I don't think I mentioned this yet, but the school I work for merged with another institution as of Jan. 1 and we are not allowed to drink now. So, I enjoyed a water. Cheers!
The fish and chips more than made up for the lack of alcohol. SO GOOD.
We also at the yummy Sweetwater American Bistro in the Grand Traverse Hotel and Spa. I highly recommend the Three Cheese Ravioli, it might change your life. And while you're at the Grand Traverse, you need to stop by the coffee shop and order a Princess Mocha. You'll thank me later! So yum.
Rest. Food. Garth. All the ingredients for a wonderful vacation!

I'm echoing the sentiments of everyone else? You can't drink out of work? Not that it's a problem. I myself rarely if ever drink. But I'm just curious why that's request of your employer?

How incredibly fun!!!! Glad you two got to get away by yourselves!!!! :)

Oh this looks like it was such a great time!!! So happy to hear your weekend went well :) PS. You aren't allowed to drink during your weekends? How can a job dictate that sort of thing?

Glad you had a great time! Our cottage is 1/2 way between Glen Arbor and Leland. Hopefully you made it over to Leland and Suttons Bay....if not, add it to your next trip! Love Boone Docks and Red Mesa --- very popular amongst the locals, hee! hee! Great pictures, thanks for sharing!!

Still giggling over the phrase, "balmy 40-degree weather" :) 40 degrees in Dallas would have people complaining about how cold it is!

Looks like a super-fun vaca! Sad about the no drinking... I'm guessing your work merged with a church of some kind?

Kate said...

Looks like a wonderful little vacay! And I'm so confused about this no-drinking rule??

I figured you were going to TC!! We love that city :)

Looks like fun! I am guessing you work for a school that merged with a Christian school? I know at some Christian schools the staff and students aren't allowed to drink.

Mrs. S. said...

So, you can't drink at all? The school you work for controls this? I am a little confused on this...it isn't like I drink all the time, but I would have a problem having that dictated.

It looks like you had a wonderful time! I would love to get away for awhile.

What a fun weekend trip! Glad yall had a good time!

Jen Caputo said...

looks like a blast! What does it mean that because of the school you work at that you can't drink? Your job can really dictate what things you do on your own time if they aren't illegal? That seems weird. I hope you can elaborate :)

That looks awesome, those fish and chips look ah-mazing!
