Betty Crocker for a day

I'm 25 years old and I have been married for a year and a half and I did something I have never done before. I baked my first cake. Yes, you read that correctly. I baked a cake and I didn't burn it, I didn't start a fire, and I didn't set the smoke detector off. The cake turned out very good, though I did have to call my mom three times and ask some questions.
To be fair, I guess I should also tell you that Garth helped. We don't have a mixer so we had to stir the batter by hand 800 times. I would stir a 100 times and yell "Switch!" And Garth would come and stir 100 times, and he would grow tired and yell "Switch!" It was a team effort, just like marriage.
I don't have any evidence that I baked it because my camera decided to die at that moment. But you have to trust me when I tell you that I baked a cake and it was tasty. We took it to a friend's graduation party and my mom kept telling everyone it was my first cake. I had to stop her or no one would eat it! Even Garth, my own husband, was scared to try it. But it was rich and moist and delish! Success. Though I just don't see myself making many more cakes in the future...

I didn't make cookies til I was 24 living in an apartment on my own. I didn't have a mixer then either so my husband's main job was to just mix, mix, mix.

Yay for a good cake! Trust me, cakes can be tough- the first cake I made for my Hubs right after we moved into our first apartment was a disaster. I didn't let it cool long enough, so when I went to frost it, it completely fell apart. I definitely couldn't have brought it to a party to share!Fortunately, the mess didn't change the taste, so we ate it anyways! :)

Great job! I made my first cake not too long ago and actually got hooked with it! It was one thing I found I could actually cook without burning! You don't want me to even mention I'm going to bake cookies. I always burn them!

Congrats on your first cake-baking excursion! Hopefully you'll show us some evidence of the next one so we can all be jealous we aren't around to sample it. Good luck with future baking, too. I found that it becomes addictive! I can't seem to stop baking muffins... yum. :)

Happy Baking!

Yea!!! Good for you! I love that you counted how many times you stirred!

PS - You should DEFINITELY invest in a mixer!

LOL... so funny! I'm really wanting to try this crock pot cake that I keep reading about on people's blog. Evidently all you do is put the cake mix (just the powder) in the crock pot and pour in a can of soda. Let it cook for 3 hours and it's supposed to be so good.

Who knew??
