I'm 25 years old and I have been married for a year and a half and I did something I have never done before. I baked my first cake. Yes, you read that correctly. I baked a cake and I didn't burn it, I didn't start a fire, and I didn't set the smoke detector off. The cake turned out very good, though I did have to call my mom three times and ask some questions.
To be fair, I guess I should also tell you that Garth helped. We don't have a mixer so we had to stir the batter by hand 800 times. I would stir a 100 times and yell "Switch!" And Garth would come and stir 100 times, and he would grow tired and yell "Switch!" It was a team effort, just like marriage.
I don't have any evidence that I baked it because my camera decided to die at that moment. But you have to trust me when I tell you that I baked a cake and it was tasty. We took it to a friend's graduation party and my mom kept telling everyone it was my first cake. I had to stop her or no one would eat it! Even Garth, my own husband, was scared to try it. But it was rich and moist and delish! Success. Though I just don't see myself making many more cakes in the future...

Yay!!!! Great job! I'm sure it was great!
haha, that's awesome! i love the "switch" technique :)
Good work!
I didn't make cookies til I was 24 living in an apartment on my own. I didn't have a mixer then either so my husband's main job was to just mix, mix, mix.
Woohoo, way to go girl! Baking is hard. I bet your cake was delish ;)
Yum! Makes me want some cake! What kind was it?
Yay for a good cake! Trust me, cakes can be tough- the first cake I made for my Hubs right after we moved into our first apartment was a disaster. I didn't let it cool long enough, so when I went to frost it, it completely fell apart. I definitely couldn't have brought it to a party to share!Fortunately, the mess didn't change the taste, so we ate it anyways! :)
Congrats on your fist cake! I love that you were taking turns stirring the batter :)
See!! Baking a cake is good!! I bet it was nice tasty...now don't you want to buy a mixer and make another one!? lol...
On one hand, I'm very proud of you!
On the other hand, I'm wondering what took you so long! :)
800 times?! Wow! Great job!
congratulations. welcome to the wonderful world of cooking ;)
Yay! Your first cake! I bet it was wonderful! I love the fact that you called your mom several times in the process. I do the same thing!!!
Good job!!!!!
Congratulations! I have yet to make my first honest to goodness, real homemade cake
Congrats! I love baking -- I can cook but don't really like to, but I could spend all day baking!
ha! I love that it was your first one!
You are too funny. Glad it turned out well :)
Way to go! I'm sure it was very yummy!
ugh I hate cooking - blah! I made my first cake about 2 years ago so no worries, you will get no judgement from me! Congrats!! :)
Great job! I made my first cake not too long ago and actually got hooked with it! It was one thing I found I could actually cook without burning! You don't want me to even mention I'm going to bake cookies. I always burn them!
Yay for your first cake!! All the cooking 'firsts' are big milestones! Gotta love the switch technique!
CONGRATS to you!!! Now you need to get yourself a mixer!!!! That was a LOT of work!!
woot! congrats on your first cake - and it was a success! My first cake surely wasn't a success story to talk about. ;) I love baking!
Now I'm hungry!! I love that you guys switched off mixing it.
Good for you! It sounds like it was a success :)
Congrats on your first cake-baking excursion! Hopefully you'll show us some evidence of the next one so we can all be jealous we aren't around to sample it. Good luck with future baking, too. I found that it becomes addictive! I can't seem to stop baking muffins... yum. :)
Happy Baking!
Alicia
YAY, you go girl!!!! :)
COngratulations Mrs. Crocker!!
Yea!!! Good for you! I love that you counted how many times you stirred!
PS - You should DEFINITELY invest in a mixer!
LOL... so funny! I'm really wanting to try this crock pot cake that I keep reading about on people's blog. Evidently all you do is put the cake mix (just the powder) in the crock pot and pour in a can of soda. Let it cook for 3 hours and it's supposed to be so good.
Who knew??
I'm so glad your cake turned out well! Next thing you know you'll be branching into cupcakes!
Yay, what kind of cake was it? You need to invest in a kitchen aid mixer...seriously - your life in the kitchen will change :)
Good job lil Lady!:)
I bet it was delish!
I like the "switch" part. Very cute! I love hearing about happy marriages! Make me smile:)

Congrats!! I don't think I've made a cake from scratch ever...or at least it was too long ago for me to remember :)
Loving your that you all switched off and on for stirring! So cute!
haha - good story! I love baking, but I have to limit myself or I would weigh even more!
Whoop whoop! I dont have a mixer either!
My husband is a much better baker than I am. I am too scared to even attempt a cake!
Go you!
You go girl!!

Gosh, I can't remember the last time I baked a cake the right way:p Ya know, flour, eggs, oil, ALL the ingredients and not just out of the box:p Way to go! Love the "switch" part...lol...
