Sweet Dreams?

Maybe the biggest adjustment to married life was sharing a bed. I'm a kicker, a blanket hog, and very restless while sleeping. I didn't know this until I got married. Garth has woken up many times with no blankets, or after a swift kick in the leg, or to a tossing and turning wife.

One time, while sharing a full bed at my grandparents' in Florida, I actually elbowed him in the face. He woke up to me sleeping soundly.

Maybe my nighttime habits are rubbing off on Garth. He hit me in the face while sleeping and I woke up with a fat lip! And one time I woke up to Garth sitting straight up in bed mumbling incoherent thoughts. Hilarious.

Last night I woke up yelling at Garth to get the cockroach off my back. There was no cockroach, it was just me having a very life like dream.

I guess love is a battlefield and one day we'll need to invest in a King Size Bed!

king size bed? or TWO TWIN beds?!

Luckily we each have our own comforters and blankets or else I'd be constantly throwing it off of both of us.

I am also a talker something awful. I've been known to say the most random things, one time I even sat straight up and broke out into giggles.

Girl, I could dedicate an entire blog to the weird things I do in my sleep...looming over Hubs, tearing through a pile of laundry, demanding that my mother leave the room...all while sleeping.

Hubs is scared of my sleeping habits...it's his fault for hogging the blankets! :)

Me and my hubby have both hit each other in the face here lately. I'm a cover hog too! I think the next time we buy a bed, it will be king size as well!

Hilarious!!! We definitely need to invest in a king sized bed...that is our FIRST purchase when he gets home this fall! There simply isn't enough room in a queen and as much as I love snuggling, I need my space! I've definitely kneed Z in the family jewels in my sleep before...poor guy :(

Oh my gosh! I just laughed so hard about the cockroach!

New Girl on Post said...

Oh my gosh! That's so funny about the cockroach! Sean and I still have a full bed...there is no room for us AND a dog that is a bed hog. I need a King. Maybe with our income tax refund....

Kristin said...

Definitely need a king sized bed!! Get one at Costco! They are comfy AND not too expensive!! :-)

Janetta Gray said...

My hubby threatens to get twin beds at least once a week! I'm a cover-stealing, leg kicking, talking in my sleep bed hog. Poor guy! The things we do for love, right?

Cristina said...

girl, we have a king size bed and my husband ALWAYS complains that I am on his side or stealing all the blankets...lol...last week I punched him in the eye and he woke me up to tell me, I felt terrible! lol...

haha...that's funny. We aren't violent...but the husby and I have our fair share of nighttime convos that neither of us remember in the morning!!

Sara said...

Too funny! I'm a kicker too. Only I don't really wake up my husband. He, on the other hand, will keep me awake all night with his snoring.

Bekah said...

haha this sounds just like us!I steal the covers, he talks nonstop!

Jen McCrady said...

we're in a king size bed, and i still end up in the middle of the bed... although last night ryan woke up in the middle of the night and just gave me a kiss. so sweet!!!

sharing a bed is definitely an adjustment though :)

Hahahaha that is hilarious!!

I am a talker when I sleep!

Funny post!

Adrienne said...

That is so funny! Be careful...haha. Apparently I talk in my sleep, a lot! I didn't realize it until my FI pointed it out to me. So once we are married he will have to put up with that.

Seperate beds may be a safer option...hehe

I couldn't help but laugh out loud at this.
A king size bed sounds like a good plan.

This got me so tickled! We have the same problem! It doesn't help things that James is 6'3" and has to lay diagonal on our queen size bed in order to fit. He has elbowed me many times and sometimes so hard, it's left bruises. I called him 'Ike' for awhile! Terrible I know! We keep saying when we get a bigger house, that is the first purchase we are making! A KING SIZE BED! :)

ELP said...

too funny :)

You guys crack me up! I giggled when I read about the cockroach dream! I so talk in my sleep all of the time! Ah, thank goodness my husband loves me. He said the other night he woke up and I was literally sprawled out hogging the entire bed...... sexy right..... not so much!

Mrs. M said...

That is funny! I hate our queen size bed. Mr. M is always taking up more than half the bed!

Newlywed Next Door said...

Hilarious!

My biggest crime is hitting the snooze bar 2-5 times a morning. The Mr. HATES that. He's always like "just get up!!"

Unknown said...

that is so funny! we have similar occurences...the other night i tried to shift my sleeping husband over so i could have some space, and he started "air punching" me...he was punching his fist straight up in the air. it was hilarious!

Girl Meets Beau said...

LOL! I have to say the king size bed is one of the best investments e-v-e-r! You don't even touch...it's so peaceful :)

Brett Alexandra said...

I've always said we need a king size bed too! I like my blankets! That is so funny. Sorry you got a fat lip!

Megan said...

Wow! Sounds like you two are dangerous when you are asleep!

Mrs. Hibit said...

This is why we love staying in hotels. The king beds are like heaven! There isn't really room for one in our current master bedroom, so we are left to dream of the distant future.

Naturally Caffeinated Family said...

cracking up about the cockroach!! that must have been a scary dream!

LOL this is so funny! I am the same way, I've woken sweet Dimples up because I hog the bed, put my icy toes on his legs, steal covers, and am all up on his side of the bed in general! He, however, is prone to elbowing me in the face and stealing my pillows! Especially the feather pillow. No one steals my feather pillow!

How about a California King?

Heather @ Simple Wives said...

ROFL, that is hilarious! I'm afraid that is going to be us, fairly soon. ;-)

Mrs. Not-so-Domesticated said...

Sleeping...that's an issue. The hubby and I have gotten very used to sleeping alone, since he sleeps at night and I sleep during the day. But on the nights I'm not at work it's always a battle.

I usually go to bed after him since I'm used to being up all night and wake him up in the process. I know I don't fall into a deep sleep until after he's left in the morning and I can sleep in the middle of the bed. I kick and I steal blankets but he talks so its always interesting.

Jessica said...

It is a big adjustment...luckily Luke and I both sleep so soundly I don't think either of us even move during the night. lol...but I have woken up to him yelling really weird and random things. It's hilarious! He never believes me in the morning when I tell him what I said :-)

JennyLee said...

Haha, I have a tendency to sleep in the middle of the bed! Poor Zane.

Emily said...

ha.. this post makes me laugh.. I love our new king size bed but sometimes I miss the closeness of our full....:)

Oh I feel your pain! I sleep with one eye open and every noise wakes me up while my husband could have an 80's hair band rocking out next to his head and would never be the wiser!!

Sassy Engineer said...

Haha - my hubby is used to be the worst about hogging the bed in general. He would never stay on his side, and I don't mean in a cute cuddly way. I mean in an almost push me out of the bed way! Luckily he is better now :) I think we may have to invest in a king size too!

Unknown said...

The joys of married life, huh?! For some reason, Jim and I haven't had too many problems. Besides the fact that I hog all the blankets and our dog takes up waaaay to much room. Hmmm..come to think of it, a king size bed would be divine!

Oh my goodness! The only dream I have on a regular basis is a very life like dream that a spider is crawling on my chest, mere inches away from my face. I am deathly afraid of spiders. And I always swear there was really a spider there. But, when these dreams happen, I always scream out loud, jump out of the bed as fast as humanly possible, turn on the light as quickly as possible and stare at the bed until I can muster up the courage to search the sheets for the huge spider that just woke me up. I have yet to find one. But, it never fails to elicit the same response. I just had one Sunday night... I thought for sure I was going to wake up my mom the way I screamed! :)

Haha! Too funny. My husband hit me in the eye one night, I woke up crying and he had no idea what was going on! It was awful!

Lucky in Love said...

Enjoy your time in the little bed :) We have a king...and for some reason I always sleep on the very very very edge...so we separate fairly early on in the night...never to meet again until morning :(

Mrs. S. said...

Eek! I am a blanket stealer...but I think it has gotten better. Good luck with that...may I suggest a helmet? :)

Amber said...

JD always says I steal the covers and push him to the edge of the bed, almost making him fall off. Hellooooo! I weigh like 100 pounds less than him, can't he just push me back over? So we feel your pain:-)

Christie said...

Ah, sharing a bed. I don't think I have any bad habits, except maybe occasionally stealing the blankets, but my Hubs sleeps with his eyes cracked open (which always creeps me out!) and sometimes will talk in his sleep and even answer questions without waking up! It cracks me up every time... especially the time he threw his hand straight up in the air and declared something in muffled sleep talk.

Toooo funny! I love the title of your blog and enjoyed my visit. After 15 years of marriage, I'm still learning to be a Godly wife. It's actually a very fun, but sometimes painful process. Blessings to you!

ahahahah that cracked me up!
Hubs and I just got a new king size bed and it is the BOMB! I highly recommend it. I blogged about it. Just so ya know.

Katie & Ryan said...

Your post cracked me up! I completely understand how you feel. My husband has such an abnormally high body temp. and we literally have to sleep on different levels of blankets. Its insane. He also is an arm flapper, and I've woken up with a hand on top of my face more than once....

AmyT said...

you sound as rough as I do!! I flop - talk in my sleep, and sleep with my eyes open - that is the one thing that freaks the hubs out!

KRISTEN'S PALACE said...

can i get an amen? lol. josh & i seriously want to kill each other in our sleep, he steals my blanket, my pillow, snores, hits me, i yell at him for snoring, hitting & stealing lol. its a non ending battle. i completely agree get a king size, we are in the summer time, i cant take it no more lol

Lacey said...

Hubby and I have this same issue! I am convinced this is why some couples slept in separate twin beds back in the old days. I am longing for the day we have a bedroom large enough for a big ole king so we can each sprawl out in peace :)

Jules said...

I can't wait to get a king size bed either. Hubby is a bed hog and comes over onto my side just about every night. He says I talk in my sleep sometimes (which is embarrassing).

In This Wonderful Life said...

king size beds are great!!! we still have pull the covers wars. My friend created something called the bleet...half blanket, half sheet...I'm thinking we need one of those!

~The Neaves Nest~ said...

Tagged you in my blog! Would love to see your then and now pics! Don't feel like you have to participate though:-)

LauraAnn said...

Oh my gosh! You HAVE to get a king size bed! We used to have a queen size bed and would have the same issues that you described in your post. Now, I get the best night of sleep ever!!! I have my own half that is plenty large!

The only issue- they don't make anything larger than a king size bed and our two bulldogs seem to think that they also belong in bed with us. It is a vicious circle I tell you!

Courtney said...

haha! Funny, we like to cuddle til we fall asleep but Z kept twitching so bad I couldn't fall asleep last night.. I love sharing a bed now, but boy is it a challenge sometimes! :)

Aahh, one day we'll have a SUPER KING and all our problems will be solved =)

That's freakin' hilarious!! And I must agree with the 1st comment... maybe 2 twin beds is what you need. LOL

Adventures in Newlywed said...

Hehehehe this is so funny :) I talk in my sleep too! Newlywed Husband said I sat up in bed once in the middle of the night and yelled, "LALALALALALALALALAL", and then went back to sleep. So strange?

Sweetbabs said...

Hahaha. That is to funny.

My husband heard me say in a dead sleep "Mustard, crackers!" Not sure what I was dreaming of but we still laugh about it.

I have solved the blanket wars by just buying a king size comforter for our queen size bed. More then enough to go around. I have yet to take all of the covers from him since I have done this.

Perfectly Imperfect said...

go king size!! you'll never go back!

i scream, kick, talk, sit up and yell. i think mr. p thinks he's sleeping with the girl from the exorcist. but in my defense.. he snores! and that's pretty freakin' annoying!!

This has been a hard thing for me to adjust to as well.

First of all, I know Im forever late, but your new layout is just TOOO cute.

I so have done the same thing. I once had a dream that I was being mauled by a bear, and woke up fighting Hubz.....he will never let me live that one down!!
