Day 1

As sad as I am to see summer go, I'm ready for the new season. The leaves changing. Bonfires. Hot apple cider. Sweater weather. Wearing boots. A fresh start.

I'm starting this new fall season off with a bang. A new lifestyle. I'm sick of taking two steps forward and one step back. I'm tired of analyzing how I look and reminiscing of the days I used to lose weight easily. I read recently that every decade your metabolism slows down by up to 5%. Yikes. It's just time to stop complaining and do something about it. Really do something about it. No more half ass attempts. No more complaining and wallowing in misery about it. Just suck it up and get healthy once and for all!

I'm 30 now. It's not cute anymore to eat unhealthy. To not take care of my body. Plain and simple I'm going to work out 6 days a week and keep my calories to 1200. Lots of fruits and veggies. No carbs after noon. No alcohol. It isn't rocket science. It's just about taking care of the only body I have.

I was scared to even say anything on here because I have failed at this recently. But I need your accountability  Your advice. Your encouragement. I'm ready to do this and I think that is truly the key to success. Wanting it bad enough.

Fitness is always my strong suit. I love working out. Here is my workout routine for the week:

Monday - Rest
Tuesday - Jillian Michael's Ripped in 30
Wednesday - Running 2 miles with Garth
Thursday - Jillian Michael's Ripped in 30
Friday - Biggest Loser Weightloss Yoga
Saturday - Run with Garth

Portion control and eating right is my weakness. The key is planning. Breakfasts this week are an oatmeal muffin and a hard boiled egg. Lunches this week are carrots with Laughing Cow Cheese sandwiches with turkey, spinach and a Sandwich Thin. Snacks are chocolate covered almonds and Luna bars. Here is my dinner plan this week:

Tuesday - Sushi with friends
Wednesday - Edamame and steak
Thursday - Curry Chicken
Friday - Salsa Chicken Wraps
Saturday - Leftovers

So that's my plan for the week. I'm excited. Garth is all in too which makes it 100% easier to follow. My goal is to be 15 pounds lighter by Halloween and 25 pounds lighter by December... if I can ever work up the strength to weigh in.

How are you all doing?

I'm going to give you a piece of advice that I hope you'll accept. Get rid of all the cardio workouts. Just do it. They don't work at long term weight loss. They are good for your health, your heart...yes. But if you want to keep muscle, lose fat and stay at your goal weight, you should be doing short bursts of HARD work. Bodeefit.com sends you free daily workouts that will kick your butt but are SO effective. They are similar to crossfit workouts.

As someone who has tried it all, I can whole heartedly say lifting heavy weights and working out for short, intense periods (20 minutes max) IS the answer. If you truly love to run, then run. But if you are looking for THE solution, stick to heavy weights.

You can do it. I have faith in you ;)

1200 is not enough. You will slam your metabolism even harder if you try to limit it to that little and make it even more difficult to lose weight. Try eating more clean healthy foods and add in some more fat. It will do wonders. Quit worrying about all the numbers in your life (weight, calories, minutes exercised) and just make the right choices. Everything will fall into place.

Ultimately you have to do what feels right for you and Garth. However, I do have one suggestion: Have you considered visiting a nutritionist?

I visited one back in June and this is the greatest success I have seen in weight loss in YEARS. I have always been very active, logging quality workouts (strength and cardio), running marathons, etc but had been watching the scale do the "slow creep" also thinking my diet was pretty decent.

Let me just say I actually eat MORE food now than before and I have lost 15 pounds in basically 2.5 months (I am aiming for a total 20-25 pound loss). Nothing has been off limits and this has been one of the most eye-opening experiences. (Put it this way, I was only able to lose 5 pounds on WW and that took 4 months of diligently logging everything that went into my mouth and never going over my "points")

My health insurance actually covered this (as well as some metabolic testing just to make sure nothing was out of whack). It may be worth it to see if something like this is available in your area.

Anonymous is %100 correct. As a certified personal trainer, I can promise you that starving yourself and pushing yourself physically without fuel is a waste of time and energy. Your body will react as if it is starving. A visit with a nutritionist is a good idea, so is considering a few sessions with a therapist to help work through your self esteem, body esteem and life fears that ultimately self sabotage any efforts to move forward and live a happy, balanced life. I know you are trying and from all the comments, even if they are "tough love." many people care about your happiness.
