Separation vs. Successful.

There have been quite a few celebrity separations this week. I was especially surprised about Courtney Cox and David Arquette though they are all equally sad.

With all the sadness in relationships this week, I thought it would be an appropriate time to share what I learned from an article about what makes couples successful. Here are the top four tips successful couples shared:

1. Surprise each other with romantic gestures.
2. Try something new together because it will make the relationship feel like an adventure.
3. Have your own hobbies.
4. Listen to each other and be able to admit when you are wrong.

I think Garth and I are best at listening to each other and admitting when we are wrong. We are probably weakest at trying new things together. We are creatures of habit, I will admit. I like my certain restaurants with my specific food I enjoy. Why mess with a good thing, right? I mean, seriously. We just debated trying a new Indian restaurant in town for days and then decided to stick with what we know!
So how did you do?

We do pretty well with all of it except the romantic gestures....Yikes!

I am a creature of habit too. I don't like change. My husband is opposite and embraces change. I am trying to learn to adapt and enjoy life as it comes. Thanks for sharing this list.

Im terrible at 'romantic gestures'. Matt excels at it though. Clearly I need to work on that!

We're pretty good with the own hobbies things--but, we are creatures of habit and NOT good with romantic gestures. We used to be--but, that was when we were first married. Mental note: must work on this!

Wow, I missed that one, how sad! We try to find a good mix of new adventures, spending quality time together, doing a bit of our own thing and not overbooking ourselves. When we have a lot going on, things get stressful and we get short and snappy. Recongnizing that and learning to say no to somethings has really helped us!

my husband and i like to do fun spontaneous things together and he occasionally surprises me with flowers or a home-cooked meal. I think I need to work more on saying "I'm wrong" but how can I say that if I'm always right? ; )

I think we are pretty good with everything on that list except for hobbies.

He has one, I really don't. It is something I am working on!

If you dont try new things, you miss out. I think you and Garth should try it and if you dont like then dont go there it again. But if you dont try then you will never know.

I couldn't believe they split...but I would never stand for a cheating husband.
