The House That Cannot Be Ours.

I know I haven't given a house update in awhile, but there isn't much to say. We still have not found the one. We thought we found our house. I could picture living there. We went back for a second look and found a really bad crack in the ceiling that meant foundation problems. We were a bit heart broken, but kept looking. Then we found our dream home, but realized it was just too expensive for us. We were heart broken and took a mini break from the hunt.
Now we're back into the swing of things. We worry we are a being a bit too picky, but we know there is a house out there for us. We just need to be patient. We aren't really in a rush. Ideally we would like to be in a house by December and that can still happen.
In the meantime, I leave you with the house that cannot be ours. It's perfect in almost every way. It's walking distance to downtown. It's a unique, 1920s house with lots of character. It's in our price range. Everything I want in a home. But it does not have a basement and that is a deal breaker. You can build on another room or a garage, but you cannot build on a basement. But it's so beautiful:I adore that hard wood floor:
LOVE this kitchen:I'm not sure what this room is, but it's pretty:What the heck would we do with a 3-car garage?! Put the ping pong table in there, of course.
Swoooooooooon.

BEAUTIFUL, however, I agree...basements are important! Yes, the three car garage there would make up for a good but of storage, but you and Garth are wise to not settle on something to important as a basement!

Sorry you are having a hard time, I think you are doing the right think by being so selective in your home choice!

Its OK to be picky... its a big decision!

I love that house.. looks like it would be perfect in the middle of a forest... has a cute little cottage feel to it ...

& I think that's WHY there's 3 doors - ping pong table is a MUST! :)

It's GOOD that you are being picky! Buying your first home is a HUGE investment and decision. I sometimes wish I had been MORE picky when purchasing our first home - I was so caught up in the process that I was blinded by a few things that have been challenging in our new house, ie. a train close by that is SO annoying. God has the perfect one in store for you, and it only takes ONE! Can't wait to see what it is. Don't lost faith! :) Once you're in it you will find the wait SO worth it!

It's definitely a good thing you're being picky! However, I can tell you that with having a 3 car garage ourselves, we won't ever have a house without it. We don't have a ping pong table but it comes in great for storage of all those man toys that I don't want to store in our house...and it removes the need for a storage building that takes up space in the backyard!

What a cute house...and it looks like they did some fabulous updates. Too bad about the basement though...let the serach continue!

What I wouldn't give to have a basement! It's funny because I grew up in the midwest where just about every house HAD a basement, but in the south - it is very rare for houses to have them. These southerners don't know what they are missing!! Hope you find the "perfect one" soon :)

You’re going to look back on this time of house hunting when you are sitting in “THE” house and be so thankful and know that your patience paid off. Hang in there! :)

You'll find something! I think I looked at between 40-50 houses before I found the ONE. It was a little above my price range, but I had to have it!

Hope you have a great week!

Good luck on finding something! I think it's perfectly fine to be picky because it's probably the largest purchase you will ever make! It will feel so good when you finally find the right one!

oh what a bummer! you are right, it's a gorgeous house but you are also right that there are some things you just can't change... The perfect house is still waiting for you to find it :)

Awww! I'm sorry it doesn't have a basement, but I'm all about True Love Waits - wait until you find the perfect house! (-:

I had my heart broken by a house and then it un-broke my heart. I know that sounds weird, but our dream home had an offer on it. I was crushed. But then, three days later, the contract fell through, and now we are under contract and set to close on September 30th! So don't give up!

Guess I don't get the basement thing since we don't have them where I live, but I totally get the being picky thing.

Keep looking. Your house is out there!

Love the house but I could never live without a basement. We've been through one too many Tornado Warnings to not have one. LOL!!! Keep going on your search. That perfect house will pop up soon!!! XOXO

That is so pretty, but you are so smart to not compromise on something that is important to you (the basement). You would regret it later. We are in the same boat, so I feel your pain. Can't wait to see what you guys do end up buying...I can imagine it will be beautiful!

It is beautiful! But take heart, once you find your perfect house, you will look back and be so relieved you didn't settle on anything else. I know that's how it's been for us every time. Praying for you!

I live in SoCal and have never had a basement, but I remember living in Boston and thinking basements were SO wonderful--especially bc you can make it into a playroom and hide the kids down there...

but what else do you use a basement for?

I agree with everyone in that it's okay to be picky!!! it's A HUGE purchase. You better get what you want : D
