Operation Get Fit!

Hi guys, how are you all doing on OGF? So far, so good over here. I have lost a pound this week and I could not be happier!

Here are the stats:
Current Weight Loss: -21 lbs
Goal: 4 lbs to go!

Oh my goodness, I cannot believe I only have four pounds to go and then I'll be at my goal weight. Eek! So exciting! It. is. so. close. When I get there I'll show before and after pics and reveal my starting and ending weight.
But for now, I'm pleased with losing a pound. It sure beats maintaining and gave me the motivation I needed to finish what I started.
I have been really good this week watching everything I ate and since the weather has been absolutely gorgeous I have been running outside and going on walks with Garth after work. Gosh, I missed our evening walks together. I could not be happier spring is here! As for running, I don't love it. I'm not a runner. I'm really slow. I actually don't enjoy the act of running. But I do enjoy how awesome I feel after and I really enjoy being outside again.
I learned something this week that I think helped me lose. This may be common sense to most of you, but it wasn't to me: You cannot exercise to eat more. Sure, I keep a food journal, but I take the weekends off and I would eat a lot more than normal because I felt I earned it because I worked out. I read that is not why you should exercise, nor is it healthy. We should exercise to keep our body healthy and eat to nourish it. Period. Not have a Snickers or eat a bag of Cheez-its because I worked out for an hour. In reality, that mentality was sabotaging my workout efforts.
Like I said, this is probably really obvious, but for me it was really important to hear. I can't workout and then eat like crazy because I didn't earn it. I still have to be careful with what I eat. So I took that to heart this week and it really paid off on the scale.

Congrats on your loss!

Good point you shared. I think a lot of us eat more (or drink more) on the weekends to blow off a little steam or because we've been "good". I'm much more aware of this now than I was a year ago.

happy friday!

Congrats, Lindsey! I’m so proud of you and you’re almost there. Evening walks with someone you love are the best, especially when it’s like this and gets a little nicer out. I’m not a runner either and have been trying to do the 1 min. 30 sec. walk and 1 min. run on the treadmill. I’ve improved my mile time and you’re right…I feel so much better when I get off.

I hope you have a great weekend!

yay for the progress! I too don't care for running, so much so I have to find other options. I really enjoy power walking, just not that I have to do it for almost two times longer than if I would just run :) More time outside is okay with me now though with this warmer weather!

Way to go! I like what you said in your last paragraph about the correlation between exercise and eating. In the last few months (since I've been researching health like a crazy person), I've found that exercise actually provides a release of toxins. But, like you, I used to do it just so that I could eat more. It was foolish, but seemed logical to me!

Great job! You are doing a FAB job!!

I am feeling the frustrations right now myself. I'm working out and working hard at it. I was journaling my calorie intake and comparing my calories burned which added up that I should be losing weight but the scale is just not budging that way, instead it seems to continue to slowly climb upward. :( I'm giving it till the end of this month and then for April it looks like I'm going to have to try the awful 'd' word I so despise. Diet..

Congratulations! That is so exciting!! That is definitely helpful advice - the food we eat is the fuel for our body. Awesome!

This is so true. I do eat worse on the weekends than during the week, but I am trying to change that. I have been buying enough fruits and veggies for 7 days, not just 5, which has helped a lot! But I do allow myself wine on the weekends, and if I fall off the wagon or go overboard, I just get back on track the next day. That's been good for me, instead of allowing it to snowball out of control!

Congrats on everything!!

YOU GO GIRL!!! You are SO CLOSE! I'm so excited for you! I have been working too and I know that I have lost some on the waistline, but I'm not sure how much I have actually lost. I don't have a scale at home... maybe I should go get one! haha! Keep up the good work! :)

Yay! Every pound gets you closer to your goal!!!
It's SO much easier to workout in the spring/summer -- hubby & I have so much more energy and love going for walks, etc.
Keep at it, girl!

I used to do that a lot...eat more because I felt like I earned it. But I went to a weight watchers meeting once and they talked about how we shouldn't use food as a reward. Do things like buy yourself a cute shirt...or maybe new workout pants...something other than food. I mean, you earned your skinniness...not more food :) Funny how much sense it makes when someone else says it :)

you are soooooo right. My hubs just lost 22 lbs and is now back to eatin the very things that made him gain in the first place. Just dont get it. Wooo you are so close girlfriend, you got this!!! xxoo LA

You are so right; I used to do the same thing. "Because I did....I can eat...."

For the last few months I have focused more on "eating clean." The more I eat this way, the less I want to eat junk.

Congrats on the loss!!

I HATE running with every passion in my bone. But lately, I have pushed myself to incorporate some jogging into my trips to the gym. But, now I am starting to love the way it feels afterwords. Definitely a motivation for sure! :)
