Operation Get Fit!

I'm moving OGF to Fridays because that has become my weigh-in day. I like weighing in on Fridays because I like to have a cheat meal or two on the weekends and it gives me 5 glorious days to get back on track. Last week I was so busy answering your questions I didn't get a chance to post, but I maintained last week. I was slightly disappointed because I had been really good, but it's better than a gain, right?
This week started rough, hence the cake post below. Garth and I hardly ever have dessert and you guys know I don't bake. I'm not a big sweets person, but this cake is my weakness. I made it for some company we were having, but there were soooo many leftovers that Garth and I couldn't let go to waste. Despite devouring the cake, my eating was good and I was working out every day. I got on the scale this morning expecting (hoping!) to maintain but to my surprise I lost a pound!
Here are the stats:
Current Weight Loss: -20 lbs
Goal: 6 to 11 lbs to go!
WOOHOOO!!! I finally reached the beautiful TWENTY mark and it feels great. But I want to talk about a thought that has been plaguing me lately - fear. I'm finally starting to feel at peace with my body, but at the same time I'm at a weight I haven't been at since high school and I am petrified I'm going to gain it all back! I know this may sound silly but it's really freaking me out. I have heard so many stories of people being within 5 to 10 pounds of their goal and sabotaging everything. I'm trying to push the thought out of my mind and to just keep doing what I'm doing because slow and steady will win the race. Have any of you guys thought this way? Am I being totally irrational? Please tell me this is normal.

I totally understand the feeling of being scared of weight-failure. I lost over 20 lbs while Mike & I were dating and have put 7 back on since we got married. I can blame stress, medications, etc, but the reality is, I DON'T WANT those 7 pounds back! It scares me to think about that scale jumping back up and never coming down again. But then I have to pray about it and give it all over to God and ask Him for the strength to keep on working at this. I can't do it in my own strength anyway...it's gotta be with His help.
Keep working on it and don't freak out if the scale doesn't always move down more than a pound -- you can do this! And regardless, you are becoming healthier just because of your excercise and eating right -- it's NOT about a number on the scale (well, it is to us, but i don't think it's supposed to be...lol). YOU can do it!!

Um, that cake below looks amazing. I want it now. :)

Good for you at hitting the 20 mark! I'm always terrified of gaining weight back, since i usually do. I have a body type where I lose weight extremely quickly, but I don't have the willpower to continue the eating healthy/working out that made me get there. So once I reach the goal, I go back to eating 2 packages of cookie dough a day and whole large pizzas by myself multiple times a week. So this time I'm for going slowly, and just being healthy, rather than losing weight. Plus, that one pound is so much harder to lose at the end, rather than the beginning, so great job!

Also (this is getting long, sorry, lol) my brother, who was a trainer, said you should make a goal that is less than you actually want to lose, so you aren't discouraged along the way. Mentally, you'll trick yourself into losing past your goal, since you're so proud of yourself. Suggestions! :)

Wow what an accomplishment. I think that is a normal fear but keep thinking positive and know that if you do gain a pound or two back you know what to do to lose it!

I have always weighed on Fridays for that exact reason! Great minds think alike!

Woo for the 20 pound mark, that's exciting!! As for feeling insecure. Usually what happens to me, is I get close to my goal and feel comfortable with how I look, so I start losing the motivation to keep going. It stinks to be so close and then to just give up. Keep going, you're doing great!!

yay for your 1 lb! and 20 lbs total so far!! congratulations!

don't get discouraged or worried girl! you have been doing great and you will continue to! there is alway going to be a tough time or times when we gain a little because of the situation or circumstance but just get right back to what you're doing now and you'll keep doing great!

You are not being irrational. When I lost weight, I had this same fear. It's very normal. It's like, someone will give you a compliment, and all you feel is fear that you'll lose that "good look" they noticed?

The only way to conquer it is to keep moving forward and living your life, complete with a healthy diet and exercise. Don't beat yourself up over the occasional indulgence, but maintain a decently healthy lifestyle. You'll be able to maintain your weight loss, and the fear will slowly melt away.

I do think it's totally normal. I've noticed that I tend to keep pants that are too big. I keep them in the closet until I'm comfortable enough to donate or sell them. It's a weird thing, but I keep them for about a year. I used to weigh 165 at one point and now I'm hovering between 135-140lbs. Whenever I get over 140, I freak out and panic. So, trust me when I say, if you watch what you do - you'll stay where you want to stay and it's okay to freak out LOL

I think it's normal to feel that way --When you feel that way, you are more aware of what you put are putting into your body, so it's a good thing!

Keep up the hard work girl. I think as a woman we all worry about gaining weight back. We just can't let it discourage us. You are strong and I know you will stay on track!

I am the same way, I am so scared that I'm going to gain weight. But at the same time, I think that having the WWW and friends who blog about fitness and healthy lifestyles helps me to maintain mine. I may be kind of rediculously overcompetitive, but I think, Wow, if Lindsay can do it and work out 5 times a week, so can I and I'm going to do it! And I may consider moving my weigh-in day to Friday too!
