In my head it was going to go like this: Garth comes home from work and he is surprised with a candlelit dinner on the table. Garth loves french onion soup and I found an easy, healthy recipe here that I thought would be perfect...
BUT this is how it really went: Garth came home a bit earlier than expected so instead of a beautiful display on the table he came home to me scrambling to finish the soup and trying to cut the bread. I bought the bread Friday, but it was stale and almost broke my knife. Sheesh. I put that behind me and pressed on. We sat down to the table and started eating and I could tell Garth hated it. Bless that sweet boy's heart, he kept eating it though.
I told him to put the spoon down and put in a pizza for him. But in my defense, there were no fires, smoke or alarms going off. It was just a recipe that we didn't like and that happens to everybody, right?

LOL The point is that you tried all because you love him! You still get your brownie points! I once tried a new recipe and I ended up making scrambled eggs in the sauce because I didn't know what tempering was!
it happens to the best of us. I tried making a zucchini soup one time and it was like gross mush. Dustin endured it through 2 lunches until he told me he couldnt eat ANY more of it. ha. this is how we learn!
LOL!!! It does happen to us all at some point. I tried to make spaghetti sauce from scratch when Brian & I first got married. Long story short...we ate Spaghetti O's for dinner that night. :) XOXO
I'm so glad you tried! Might I recommend you take a look at my cooking blog... I've got bunches of easy soup recipes -- www.joyinmykitchen.blogspot.com!
Um, honey, that happens to me more than I care to admit. But, B is gone for work and I've been living off of cucumbers and cheese.
haha! Yes, happens all the time. Onto the next recipe!
This has happened to me anytime I try and switch everything to fat free or low cal. Lenny just says, this tastes weird.
It's the thought that counts! I made a chilled soup one time for a romantic picnic that I had planned...it was a total bomb, I couldn't even finish it. ;-)
Hey it wasn't your fault...it was the receipe's!!!!!! AT least you tried!!!!
What I always say about that is that atleast you tried and at least you could both be honest & decide it was just a recipe you didn't like. I've definitely had my share of those recipes and they promptly got tossed in the trash!
Mishaps are a regular occurence in my house. We had a terrible recipe last night! Dont give up!
At least you tried... & while it might not have been "perfect" of how you thought the evening would go, the thought that you wanted it to be perfect is adorable!!! :)
I have so been there!
Haha! Awww...my husband does the same thing. I also tried to turn a german chocolate cake recipe into cupcakes once and that was a MAJOR FAIL. But my whole family ate them declaring their deliciousness!
If at first you don't succeed, try, try again!
Yes dear, that happens to everybody! No worries! But he sounds like quite the trooper for trying to eat it anyway! :)
I had that happen to me the other day! I wanted to try out a new recipe and bless my husbands heart.....he faked his way through it. I kept telling him that he would not hurt my feelings if he wanted something else because I knew it tasted terrible! But he insisted on eating his plate. Gotta love them!
Sounds like a typical day in my house! :)
it's the thought that counts :)
at least you tried...hehe!
the same thing would totally happen to me as well though...never to billy though becuase he is the self-proclaimed chef at our place ;)
That happens ALL THE TIME!!!
Awww at least you tried!!
You win some, you lose some! :)
Good try love!
Things like this are constantly happening to me!
You know you have a good husband when he keeps eating something he doesn't like just because he knows the effort you went to make it!
Ha - that has so happened to me. It's incredibly disappointing after you've spent all this time racing around making something, to find out it's not very good. Bummer!
That's happened to me so many times.
But it's the thought that counts!
aww!! That does happen to the best of us!! Garth is so sweet!
Its the thought that counts right!?! Men are awesome like that! They keep eating no matter what! and under no circumstance criticize our food! =D
It's totally happened to me. God bless him for eating.
LOL! I guess I would say Its the thought that counts!
awww... i'm sorry! But I'm glad you had pizza. And at least he was sweet about it.

Yes! There are always recipes that don't taste like you thought they would and turn out bad. Even recipes that have been made and loved over and over can turn out very BAD. I had this happen to a dessert I made for our New Years party and had to go buy all new ingredients and start again it was that bad (and it is something I have made at least 6 times!) I say it was defective products ;-)
And here we have the opposite problem with bread. I have to keep it in the fridge or it will mold in about 4 days!!!
awww dont worry girl! It happens to all of us! What a great hubby to eat it anyways! : )
Garth sounds like a person..everyone could just love!
I left you something on my blog :)
I agree with everyone else, it's the thought that counts and your sweet husband knew that. Just keep trying, it makes for good memories and laughs down the road :)
That always happens when I try to surprise Husby! And yes, it always turns out that the recipe is less than stellar. Ah, life. What a great idea though. I'm sure Garth loved the thought. :)
LOL!
Good luck next time :)
Aw, bless your heart for trying! I've done the same thing and had something that sounds perfectly delicious be not at all what I thought.
you showed him love and that's all that matters!!
btw, i have several delicious dinner recipes on my blog under dinner (http://www.greyumbrella.com/search/label/dinner) ... including a french onion soup. i think french onion soup is one thing you don't skimp on with butter. try out the recipe and let me know what you think!
