Dallas Cowboy Cheerleader Workouts: A Review.

Day One.
I started with the bootcamp video and did the low-impact version. Sgt. Jay has a completely different personality than Jillian and Bob which was refreshing. His moves were also different than Biggest Loser videos which I was happy about. It was a much needed change.
The low-impact version was about 35 minutes and I wasn't dripping with sweat or shaking like I am from my other videos. So I did the extras - Ab and Arm Assault, and the yoga intro. I thought it was strange (and frustrating) that I worked up a sweat with the bonus features. The arm and ab workouts felt like assault. My arms were burning and some of the ab moves were really tough. I really enjoyed the yoga intro as well. It was 20 minutes long and it had some new moves I haven't done before.

Day Two.
I guess being sweaty or shaky doesn't necessarily mean you didn't have a great workout because this morning I hurt everywhere. My abs and arms especially hurt, but it also hurts to walk.
Today I tried the Cardio Dance. I begged Garth to not sneak in to watch me because I just knew I would make a fool of myself trying to follow along with the girls. And I did. With moves like the "cat walk" and "sexy walk" I was sure to make them look anythinig but awkward. I knew from that point on this video was not for me. I missed Jillian Michaels, she would NEVER make us do a sexy walk.
By the end of the workout I had not been out of breath once and I was not sweating at all. I was very disappointed in this video and do not plan on doing it again. This video just reaffirms why I was not a cheerleader in high school and I just don't need that reminder again.

Day Three.
I liked the Bootcamp Low Impact so I was sure the High Impact would be even better. Wrong. The moves were elementary and I don't like that we don't do many reps. I actually enjoyed the Low Impact moves better because they were all new to me. At least I broke out in a sweat, but again, I was not shaking or gasping for breath like in my other videos.

The verdict? I miss Jillian and Bob. I was disappointed in the lack of difficulty in these videos, but I did enjoy Sgt. Jay's motivational speeches. He would say things like "If you wanna be a hottie you gotta get the body." Hilarious.
So please, if you know of some intense videos (other than The Shred) that you like, can you recommend them? I need something different and more difficult. Thanks!!

I hate to workout in front of Hubs too. I feel so self conscious :)

I signed up for a pilates class here at work that is 6 a.m. every tuesday a.m. I hate getting up at 5:30, but after, it feels so GREAT!

Me too, I hate working out in front of my husband when it's the Wii Fit or a workout video. Running, I don't mind. But it is hilarious and I know he'd laugh at me if he saw me!

Thanks for letting us know...My hub and I did Shred together which I liked..however now I am still going and he quit..I have to do it in another room because when I take that 5 sec breath that Jill allows, he says "come on, dont stop!" Whatever :)

Great review, it's just unfortunate the videos weren't what you wanted. I've never been big into workout videos, so I can't recommend anything; plus, I'm still trudging ahead with the Shred, so no new suggestions.

Ohhh, I can't work out in front of the Hubster either. Drives me crazy!

I used to love an MTV Cardio Yoga DVD that I had way back in the day. I do like the flexibility that yoga brings, but wanted something more fast paced. That was a great compromise.

Still, Jillian is pretty kick butt!

Hmmm, I love all of the BL videos, but am a big fan of the Jillian Michaels Shape Up Back. It's one of my old stand by's. The BL Yoga is great for those days when you don't think that your body can take much more, but you want to still push yourself!

I loved the Shred, so I'm no help. I hate when videos don't live up to your expectations - such a letdown!

LOL...totally would never have even attempted the dance part! ;o) Call me proud!

HI! I found your blog through a friend. Just thought I would tell you that you might like P90X. Its hard and you do a differnt workout everyday of the week. It works! My hubby and I have been doing it for a little over a month and he has lost 15 pounds. I have lost 5 but have really started to tone. I had a babay 2 years ago and this is the only thing getting my abs in shape! Good luck with your workouts.

Hahaha I'm so glad to hear I'm not the only one who is dripping sweat and shaking after every Shred workout... even after a solid 2 weeks. I was starting to think something was wrong with me! I'm glad you reviewed these, because Jillian's voice is really starting to annoy me. But, I guess I'll stick it out with her! :)

have you tried P90X? i have done that and the shred and i def think P90X is a bigger challenge. although i enjoyed the shorter workout you get with the shred - P90X shows real results!

Have you heard of Turbo Jam with Chalene Johnson? http://www.beachbody.com/product/fitness_programs/turbo_jam_maximum_results.do?code=TURBOJAMDOTCOM Oh man...these workouts kick my butt!! I'd highly recommend them. They're difficult AND fun.

I've also done P90X but that's involves a HUGE commitment. You have to work out 6 days a week for at least an hour. But it's something to think about...

Oh yeah ..I have one more. Taebo by Billy Blanks. I had sweat literally blinding me when I did these workouts.

Great review, thanks for sharing! I might be sticking with Jillian because I like the sweaty, can't breath, want to die workouts, lol. I think there is something wrong with me - HA!

Anything by The Firm and Kathy Smith: Lift Weights to Lose Weight is a good one. Two 20 minute workouts (arms and legs) and they are both pretty intense. HTH!

The husband and I are starting the 30-Day shred tonight and not gonna lie, I talked the husband into it due to your posts regarding it. Can't wait!-- but I'm a little scared about how I'll feel tomorrow!

I'm so glad you reviewed this. I love the show, but I wondered if the work outs were any good.

I really enjoy Turbo Jams~I feel like they are a great work-out. Have you ever tried it? There is a set of 4 or 5 different work-outs in the package.

He actually teaches a bootcamp throughout the year (I live in Dallas) and a friend of mine took it a year ago and love, love, loved it. And got in killer shape. I'm so sad to hear that the video did not live up to what he actually teaches at his real bootcamp!

You really inspire me to WANT to work out! Why don't I? haha
