What have we done.

It started out as a typical night. We were laying on the couch, talking, and watching House Hunters. The couple on TV were talking about how they changed their dining room into a craft room and that is when the trouble began.
We looked at our dining room - a big, gorgeous space with a HUGE table that we almost never use. It's nice for big dinner parties, but those just don't happen that often.
And lets face it, our dining room is pretty plain:And our desk was crowding the family room:Sooooo, we decided to put the dining room table in storage and made our dining room our new office! And look at how uncluttered the family room is now:I am still getting used to the idea, and I think I will love it more when we get some book shelves in there and some pictures on the wall. I'll keep you updated on this new project.
I do enjoy the extra space and the fact that we will actually use the space now. My only concern is how easy it will be to pull the table out of storage for dinner parties, and I do love me some dinner parties. But for now, I'm digging it.
Oh, and if you're wondering where we eat since we don't use the table - we eat at that coffee table.
So, what do you think?

Great job on making the switch ~ it looks wonderful!!! I want to move some furniture around in our house too. For one I'd like to get rid of our old crappy futon but the hubs loves that thing. LOL!!! XOXO

LOVE it!! :) I can imagine that with the desk in the family room, it certainly would have been cluttered and quite hard to move about! You'll love the new space once you get used to it. :) Can't wait to see all of the finishing touches/accents you put in there!

New to commenting on your blog -- Hi my name is Karen-- we just did the same thing a couple months ago and it is sooo worth it! Use the space for what is helpful on a daily basis!

Nice- that is what we did. We only have a one bedroom apartment- and while we were both in school- we had two desks so yeah- the table gor moved and the dining area became the office. I don't know how we did it before.

I love it!! We have 2 tables and we eat at the coffee table! What is up with that! I refuse to give up my dining room for the simple fact that I'm obsess with my wedding china. That I've never used. Whatev!

You're turning into such a decorator! I love it! Now I can't wait for you to buy your dream house!

I think that's a brilliant plan! Husby and I eat at our coffee table too because our kitchen is just way too small.

What a great idea! We have a formal dining room and a breakfast nook that is big enough for a 6 person table so we use the formal dining room as a game/entertainment room -- the best thing we ever did!

You pay for the space might as well use it...Great switch! :)

I think this is a great idea! If my husband and I have a baby before we move (wow, that's looking a bit far ahead, but anyways, haha), I might have to steal it because we just have two bedrooms and I don't want an office space in the nursery! I might try it before then though because as much as I wish we used the dining room table, we really never do... the only problem is we don't have storage for it for later!

Q and I LOVE formal dinners so that would be a hard one for us to give up. BUT, the use of space is fabulous!

We just got rid of our dining room table (more like a breakfast nook if you ask me...the room was so small!) and made it into an office...muchhhh better!

I really like it. I like the wall hanging in the background that looks like a sunshine perhaps? Not sure what it is, but it looks great.

I like it! You're quite the decorator now. When I was in high school my parents realized they hardly ever used the formal table--so they made it into a game room with a pool table. lol. :)

Looks great! It's important to use the space in your home! I hate houses that have those "off limits" rooms.
