His Dream House.

Garth's dream house is brand new with gorgeous neutral walls and hardwood floors. His house is not near a downtown and it is further from our jobs, but it is is bigger than my dream house by about 500 sq. ft. and still in a safe neighborhood with a good school system.
Without further ado:
Lovely open kitchen:
The living room:
Bath:Upstairs hallway:
One of the bedrooms:
Garth sees definite potential to turn the basement into a game room:
The only thing that would need to be done to this house is building on a deck:

Soooo, which house do YOU like better?

**To answer your question from yesterday, these are our dream homes within our budget. Believe me, if money was not an issue our dream homes would be HUGE and on a lake.**

I LOVE the house that you picked out. No offense to Garth's but....your's looks much cozier! Good luck when the time comes.

I know what you mean about the dream house within your budget. I'm getting mine TODAY!!

I happen to like your house better...but Garth could have a point with the safe neighborhood and school system....

I'm on team wife! His is cute, but yours has character! = )

AEOT said...

Definitely yours. It looks just like something I would pick out myself. Sorry Garth!

Anonymous said...

I'd pick yours. His is too plain! Ugh!

Your choice seems to a lot more cheery and brighter... and I would have chosen that house without a moments thought! :)Love the porch.

Shannon Dew said...

Yours, hands down!!! Yours had so much more character, this one is so typical and kinda boring. Sorry Garth!

I'm on the same page as you. Both are beautiful houses, but I really like the one you picked out better.

Husby and I had differing tastes at first too (and for the same reason as you and Garth). After a while, we found homes that mixed my favorite things with his favorite things and eventually we found the home we bought! It takes ALOT of time though, so smart of both of you to begin looking now.

Mrs. Dirnberger said...

I love both...but honestly YOUR dream house has the character and class. So of course I pick yours

Liz said...

I do like this house but I like the one you love so much more. :)

Unknown said...

Oh your house wins for sure!!

Jen McCrady said...

i like yours better but there IS something to be said for a nice new house... we've really enjoyed that aspect.

ELP said...

His dream house is really nice too but Im a sucker for old homes with charm!

Brandi said...

I like the idea of a new house because everything is new and you have less worries with having to fix things but at the same time I love the layout and charm that the older homes have!! The one you picked is gorgeous!!!

Heather (Live.Love.Laugh.) said...

I like both but yours alittle more.

Kassie said...

I have to admit, while his is gorgeous, yours is so my taste!! Love it. :)

Rachel H. said...

I'm not sure...I like them both! I agree that I tend to like yours better more, but I'm not a fan of the really white bathroom, so I'd probably change that up a little bit!

Anonymous said...

They are both gorgeous, but no offense to Garth - yours wins. I just like look more.

CJ said...

Both of them are great but I prefer yours.I love old houses!

I am going to go with you - Your house is absolutely cute, chic and perfect!

Garth's is nice too of course, but I like yours :)

Dawn said...

Im on team WIFE! Garth's pick is great and you both have good taste but there's just something about the charm of an older home. More character! Good luck with your choice. Buying a home is so exciting!

Ellen Mint said...

Wow, your hubby's pick is a lot like the house we just bought. So I'll have to go with that one just from some solidarity I suppose.

Courtney said...

I like your house 100 times better. It looks cozier than the one Garth picked. Yours is more my style anyway. Good luck choosing one!

Mrs. Potts said...

I like his house too and it really is pretty, but something about older homes (especially Craftsman style) has always called to me. I love them & the character they bring with them.

My pick would still be your dream house!

Brown Girl said...

I really like both but I'd have to say yours. Sorry Garth!

Lucy Marie said...

I do like both but I love the character in the house you picked out. I vote for you.

Nessa said...

YOURS! Fo' shoooo! ;)

YOURS!

Shaina said...

Your house DEFINITELY wins. No offense to Garth, but his house doens't have any character!

Breadwinner Wife said...

Both are really nice but I have to say I like the one you picked better!

Lauren said...

Seriously, you both have some great test and you really can't go wrong wiht either one!!! :)

Usually I'm into newer homes, but the house that you chose yesterday was absolutely gorgeous and had so much character! I would def choose that one.

Hailey HRH said...

i still like the one you picked out better ;)

When I saw the house that you picked out I got shivers! It's so warm and inviting with lots of sunshine and color.

I must admit, my house was built in the 1800's and I was going to advise against purchasing an older home but the pictures changed my mind in a hurry. Do you think this house will stil be available when you are ready to buy?

Kim @ NewlyWoodwards said...

Your choice, without a doubt.

It had more character, in my humble opinion.

sarah said...

I hate to say this Garth, but I DEFINITELY prefer yours! Yours seems more like a home to me!

jules said...

I guess I'm going against the popular vote here. I do like Garth's pick more....

God, My Savior Forever! said...

Wow..it's hard to choose one over the other. I like yours because it's like a lil cottage, dollhouse, very warm and cozy and has alot fo character but I am more of a traditional home lady and your hubby's pick is amazing! I love all the natural lighting and how spacious it is. I too can see alot of potential for the basement. I can see you guys raising your children here!

Meg said...

I'm loving the fireplace, but I'm still learning towards your home. ;) I can't get over those hardwood floors, the back porch and well, it's all around beautifulness! ;)

Holly said...

I definitely likes yours better. Much more character!

Whitney said...

I like this house, but I def like yours better!

J.L.S. said...

Your's is definitely my pick!

Amber said...

Yours wins by far in my book! His is nice but yours is just such a charmer!

Lauren said...

If you can afford the house you picked then go for it! I love your house--it has so much character!

Good luck!

Jessica said...

This house is nice, but I think I like your pick better. It has a little bit more character

Tiffany said...

I like the one you picked out better only because like you I love the older homes. The one Garth picked out is nice too. It's just that all the new houses look the same to me and don't have the character and charm as the older homes! Good thing you have time to compromise :)

ashley said...

oh you win by a loooong shot! :-) of course i'd gladly take either house, but yours just has so much charm!!!!

Pleasant Living said...

To me, this is no question - go with your pick! From a person who lived in an old house and then moved to a new one, I will never live in a brand new house again. Sure, it's nice and clean and new, but it is so boring!

Brittany Ann said...

I'm going with yours! Sorry, Garth!

Kristin said...

Def yours! His seems very cookie-cutter and I'm not a fan of the garage making more of a statement than the front door! Sorry Garth! :)

5th Belle Avenue said...

His house definitely has a nice interior, bur your house has SO much charm!! The exterior of your house has so much personality!! I am definitely on your side!

Kristen said...

Garth's choice looks too cookie-cutter to me. I prefer your choice. My house was built in 1949, and while it can be a pain to renovate an older home, it's worth it for the charm!

Gwen said...

I would have to go with your pick!!! Looks like something I could see myself in for a long time. I love new houses too but older homes have so much charm to them. :) XOXO

LWLH said...

Sorry Garth, but I'm gonna have to go with the wifey's choice.. I like the whole vibe of the other house better.

Kelly said...

I love the house you like, while there isn't anything wrong with Garth's choice, older homes have far more charm....

Bekah said...

dont get me wrong, the house garth likes is beautiful..but the house you like is something that I too would fall head over heels in love with! So...I have to vote for your choice of houses over garths...although like I said...there is absolutely NOTHING wrong with the house he likes.

Mary Michal said...

I have to say, I really liked both. I could definitely be comfortable in either house. But if I had to pick, I would pick your house over Garth's house. Yours just has a little more personality.

TexanCouture said...

Garth's house is nice but I like the one you picked out better, it just has more character to it.

Jen said...

Garth's house is nice, but I really like yours better. I'm with the other girls, it's gorgeous and has character! That's hard to find these days with builders making all of the houses similar :)

Unknown said...

I like your top pick soo much better - hello, the hardwood floors and that porch!

Mason said...

Yours! WAAAAAY Better! Yours has charm and seems nicer. :) BTW--having a giveaway this wekk..check it out! :) Susan @ www.peanutpetunia.blogspot.com

AmyT said...

His is nice...but yours is the bestest!! I love the hard wood floors...and that porch/sun room!!!! wowza!

leah @maritalbless said...

Dang, I was going to say Garth's before seeing your's because it has a lot that I like . . . HOWEVER your's is the CLEAR winner!

Amanda said...

I like aspects of both houses. I really like the hardwood floors in your pick, just as you mentioned, but that basement in his pick would be really nice as well. Sry for not being much help! Good luck picking one!

Jac said...

I like your choice better. I personally live in an older home (76 years old to be exact) and I like the character that was put in older homes that is just too expensive to do to more modern homes. However, sometimes I crave a newer home where everything works perfectly and nothing need fixing, updating, etc, etc. Sooo, I can see the advantages to both homes!

Sarah Louise said...

I LOVED the house that you picked!!!! I didn't love the house Garth :( Sorry Garth!

I guess I just think that the one that you liked had a little more style and character. SUPER CUTE!

Tasha said...

Both houses are very nice, but I like the one you picked better. It just looks so warm and inviting! It's more of a "home" than just a house. :-) Sorry to Garth, but "your" house is adorable!

USCEmily said...

Sorry Garth, but I have to go with your pick! I just LOVED that porch...that sold me on the whole house.
This one doesn't seem as homey, although I know you could make it that way.

Annie said...

i love the one you picked out because it has so much charm and character!
i know when we go to buy a house it will be something brand new or newer as well. my fiance wouldn't go for an old cute craftsman style house ever! and i'm not against new ;)

Yours all the way. Yours is so bright and welcoming!

Katie @ Loves of Life said...

Yours, yours, yours!!!!!!!!!!! wayyyy better! more land! hardwood floors!
hands down!

LyndsAU said...

i love the character of an old house but the newness of a new house!! but my house was built in the 60s and has lots of character that newer ones don't!! so i vote yours :)

TheTinyJEWELBox said...

Again, I usually go with modern. But that Victorian that you picked out was uber adorable. That's my pick.

oh I LOVE LOVE LOVE your fav!! So quaint and pretty! I'll pray it's for sale when you guys are ready :)

I have to admit I liked yours better. More character!

Mrs EyeCanSee said...

Yours wins! I'm not a fan of the cookie cutter design all the new homes have these days. The other had so much more personality! Sorry Garth!

Mrs. J L said...

I loved urs much more! sorry garth!

Anonymous said...

I like yours...I'm an open space, hardwood floors kinda gal.

The Hnou Mrs. said...

I LOVE the one you picked out! It's so CHARMING! and I love that it feels brighter inside with natural light. LOVE!

Jules said...

I like both and it seems like it would be hard to decide! I love how charming the house that you picked is and I love the newness of this home. It would also be low to no maintenance since it is new. The tile and all of the fixtures are very nice too.

Becky said...

I like his house more than I thought I would. It's easy to say yours looks "homier" because it had furniture in it, landscaping, etc. Either one would be a great place to live and eventually raise a family. You didn't say anything about the corresponding school systems, though, and I assume that would be very important in years to come.

Mel said...

Yours wins, hands down, no question about it. All that beautiful character and architecture. I love old houses. Garth's choice looks like a plain tract home, and I'll bet all the neighbor's houses look exactly the same.

Karen said...

Your pick is much better! The floors and uniqueness set it apart!

The Shabby Princess said...

Oh, yours! But his def. has potential!

Happiness Is... said...

I love your dream house...I am not a huge fan of brand new construction...I like an old house with charm and renovations for modern amenities like dishwashers :)

Hey, I want the best of both worlds!

Unknown said...

I DEFINITELY love the house you picked! Its gorgeous! How exciting this is! I can't wait for that happy day in my own life, even though it might be a while:p

I like your pick. =)

While this house is nice I have to say that I likeyours much better. Sorry, Garth!

I really like both houses... I think the perfect house would be a combination of the two but I definitely like the coziness of your house :)
