Healthy Living.

I find it extremely frustrating that it takes a month to form a habit and only a week to break a habit. I was running 4 miles every morning, waking up at 6a.m. I had even lost 2 pounds in the process, bringing me closer to my goal. I had only EIGHT more pounds to go and I would be at my goal weight. But then I got a miserable cold last week. The cold where you can't get breathe through your nose and it is so hard to fall alseep. I was achy, headachy, and in no shape to run every morning so I took the week off. Then over the weekend we went away and I ate what I wanted and didn't exercise because it was "my birthday weekend." That was my excuse and I stuck to it.
Now I'm back to reality and ready to lose these stupid, annoying, last 8 pounds. I did some analyzing of my diet and realized I was eating only 400 calories during the day, and would be STARVED by dinner and overeat. I decided this was not going to help me lose the remaining weight, so I needed a change. Well, I had recently started reading this celebrity trainer's twitters and he mentioned all his clients eat 6 small meals a day. I thought this was brilliant and made so much sense! So Garth and I have started eating this way and I love it! I never feel starved, but I never feel full either.
I am keeping a food journal again, even though I hate it, because it WORKS. Here is my journal from Monday:

7a.m.
5 Black Coffee
190 Peanut Butter
40 Whole Wheat Toast

10a.m.
80 Yogurt
45 Apple

1p.m.
170 Honey Bunches of Oat Cereal with Skim Milk
5 Green Tea

4p.m.
260 Cliff Bar
90 2 Celementines

7p.m.
220 2 turkey hot dogs
130 Baked Cheetos
45 Carrots

TOTAL: 1280 calories

I try to keep it between 1200 and 1500 calories a day. As for the fitness, I switch between yoga and weight lifting in the mornings, and I do about 30 min cardio at the gym with Garth after work. I really think this is how I will get the stubborn pounds off so I'll keep you posted.

I keep a food diary for my migraines but I never thought of using it as a fitness tool too that's a great idea.

Good luck!! It sounds like you are on the right track.

And, I know it's still early, but whenever you decide to get pregnant, they say that is the best way to eat then too!

Good for you! I have the same problem with not eating enough during the day and then going nuts when I get home and there's food around me! I'm working on eating larger lunchs--ummm, 150 calorie soup was just not doin' it!

Good for you. I counted calories in high school for awhile when I needed to lose some weight from being sick- and I noticed that I did a lot better when I ate more in the morning. If I didn't I would be too hungry like you and overeat. Good luck to you!

That's a lot of willpower, to be honest with your eating on your blog, congrats! I track my meals on WW's website and like it. I just forget to do it on the weekends, I should get into the habit! Good luck && cereal for lunch = amazing!!

Good luck! You are way disciplined! I like to eat a lot (and drink wine), so I make up for it by running as much as I can...however, I have been there before where I fall off the wagon in terms of getting sick and then all of a sudden a week or 2 has passed.

I can't wait to hear how you do on this "diet" - small meals are definitely good for you!

You get it!!! I know you will. But I feel your pain. I'm trying to form a habit of working out every day and sticking to WW (I have the bad habit of cheating with food on the weekends). Keep us updated on your progress. I'm sending good vibes your way. XOXO

Breaking a habit is so so easy to do... I hate getting myself back into the routine again, but once you have it becomes second nature! Kind of like starting an essay is the worst part of doing it!

Good luck with it! Have a great weekend xx

I'm so confused now.. where do you look up the calorie amounts? I've got way different amounts for apples and Honey bunches w/ skim... like a good bit higher amounts. Hmm.. I know portion size matters.. but I got like 120 for an apple, and you show 45. Confusing..

AmyT said...

I've heard that is the best thing to do...6 small meals - and you're right never hungry.....that is the problem I have skip here...over eat there......very unbalanced!!!

I hate tracking calories too. Good for you for doing it!
