This weekend we signed the lease to our new place. As tempting as a house is at the moment, we know it's not our time. We've prayed about it and feel that now is not our time to buy. We aren't planning on staying in Michigan that much longer and we have no desire to mow a lawn and take up all the responsibilities that a house entails. And in all honesty, we rather travel. We don't want a house until we are ready to have kids. And we are not ready for kids for a couple more years so we rather rent and travel. Live it up before we settle down, buy a house, and have babies. I don't know why I feel I have to defend our decision to rent again, but there you go.
I waited until the lease was signed and things were finalized before I mentioned moving, since our move in December fell through. And when it did, we felt at peace. Relieved even. So we knew it wasn't the time. But 6 months have passed and we are itching to get out of our tiny apartment that is too far from work. We are moving so much closer to our jobs and we're getting double the space we have now! We could not be more thrilled, we're even counting down the days until we move. June 27 to be exact. YAYAYA!

House or no house, a new place is always exciting. And good for you for knowing you're not ready and making a smart decision.
A new place! How exciting! Good luck with the move!
personally i love moves!! good luck with it and congrats on all that extra space! our move from a 1 bdrm to a 2 bdrm has been so nice! i love the extra space!
There's nothing wrong with renting! I miss the days of other people doing the yardwork and fixing everything that broke...
I bet you guys are so excited! I understand not wanting to purchase until you are ready for a family, that makes perfect sense to me!
Have fun with the whole moving experience! Don't you just love decorating a brand new place ;)
I agree with your logic! We aren't ready to buy a house yet, and we certainly aren't ready for kids!!
Yea for being closer to work and having more room!
I'm so happy you guys are excited about your move. It's fantastic that you will be in a bigger place, closer to work! What could be better?
We rent as well and are always getting pressured to buy. We don't want to stay in Ohio and don't want to get stuck here with a house...but the market is so good! It's a tough spot to be in...but I'm so glad you two have found what is right for you!
congrats girl! i bet you will love having more space!
Congrats on the new place!!
how exciting! nothing better than moving to a bigger place :) And it's actually good that u two are on the same boat when it comes to when you want to a house. u two will know when u are ready. no need to rush. you are a still young, enjoy each other and travel!!! :)
Yay! How exciting! Good luck packing and everything. Yuck! Haha :)
Congrats!! I can't wait till we can get a bigger place... our kids are getting WAY too big!! :)
I'm so glad u will have more space! But moving is never fun!
I hear ya on the mowing the yard crap. It stinks.
Can't wait to see pictures.
I despise moving. I would already be complaining.
Good luck with your move!
Awesome. It's so good to be right where God wants you to be.
Where are you hoping to move after MI?
So exciting! Congratulations!!
DH and I are in the same position as you -rent vs. buy. I think your logic makes perfect sense, and there is no need to justify your decision! Good luck with the move!
Yay for more space! I totally understand your reason for wanting to stay in an apartment longer, we go back and forth about it a lot! Good luck with packing everything up! I hope it all goes smoothly!
Lindsey, that's AWESOME! I cant wait to see pics. I am somewhat obsessed with seeing how others 'set up shop' so to say...haha!!! Good Luck with the move...isn't THAT always fun! hah
Yay for moving! I know it's super exciting for y'all!
I know you guys have had some interesting, to say the least, experiances in your apartment. SO CONGRATS on the new place...
~Elyse
Rock ON!! Go get 'em, guys! McStudly and I are learning the hard way how much work it is to own a home. So I don't blame you for waiting at ALL!! and again I say - Rock on... renting works. And if you get twice the space and less fo a commute out of it then mroe power to ya!!
SCORE!!
Exciting, congrats on the new place!!
Congratulations! June 27th is not far away at all...how exciting!
We have a similar philosophy. We did buy a house (which is a lot of work), but we are waiting to have kids because we want to live it up! And we have been traveling a lot lately!
Congratulations! I bet you're so excited to have that much space and to be closer to work :-)
Yay! We just sold our house and are moving back to Oregon on June 26th! Good luck with everything!
Congrats! I think you made a great decision. Moving days are so fun!
Congrats on the move! Only 18 days to go! That's so exciting. You'll definitely have to take some pictures and show us your new space.
Yay for a new and fresh place to make your own! And good for the two of you to know your limitations and also your true desires, such as to travel rather than pay a mortgage. It's so good to be aware of such things and put them in God's hands.
Hey, no need to defend your decision!! You guys know what is truly important to you and are willing to make it work. Good for you! I'm glad you found a good place to rent :)
Congrats! That is exciting! I know you feel better now that a decision is made. :)
thanks for visiting the Paris House, your blog is happy and inspirational
so very exciting :) im glad y'all made the decision that is best for you guys!! that is what is important :)
Congrats!! I think you are making a very wise decision, especially at this time!
Congrats on the new place and it will be nice to have that extra space!
Good for you for traveling and doing some of what you guys really want to before buying a house.
Double the space? That is nice. It is great to have some space to move around. I am completely with you, owning a home is a lot of work, and why burden yourself if you don't have to?
You know, I always feel the need to defend myself too with making the decision to rent. My family (mainly my sister Autumn) has pushed the home owners idea on me for sometime and I know Robert's parents feel the same. It is showing money smarts, for sure, but sometimes it just doesn't fit the life style you're wanting to lead right now, and thats okay:) We too have the mind set of buying when we're able to settle down once Rob retires from the Army and we're wanting kids. We're not wanting any of those for a good four years so we have sometime! So glad you found this place and prayer is always best. Sounds like they were answered!
Woo hoo for my space...whether a house or an apt a new place is always fun & exciting
Yes, there's absolutely nothing wrong with renting. We bought our house even before we were married and have spent 2.5 years there, but now we're feeling the itch to possibly move and where does that leave us? With a house we would need to rent out or sell in the crappy housing market! We love our little house but I know that we will leave it in the next year or two.
That is so exciting!!! ( I always feel like I have to defend our decision not to buy also. No idea why.)
good luck with the move!
and waiting is the best thing to do - then you will get the right home just for you! and you wont feel rushed! thats the way to do it.
I'm so excited for you two! I can't wait to see pictures of the new place :)
Closer to work and double the space? Yay!
moving into a new place is always so exciting!! good luck!
Yeah for a new place and double yeah for traveling!!
Yay! How exciting!! I am a big believer in not doing things unless they feel right and it sounds like you made a great decision! :)
yay!! how exciting about a new place! and girl.. there is nothing wrong with renting!! we own, but it is a LOT of hard work. we got lucky in that we have little boy friends that like helping with the work ;) some of our best times were spent in our little rented apartment!
Congrats on the move! I know you will love the new place.
And the decision not to buy is smart. My sister bought her house and a year later moved away. She now rents her house but she still has to pay a little towards the mortgage.
ahhhh congrats!!!! that's so exciting!!
I've been giving leasing vs buying a lot of thought lately as Matt and I aren't sure how long we'll be at his post in NY before the Army sends us somewhere else. I think it'd be stupid to buy and then have to sell or rent, so I think we'll lease.
I like your reasoning about kids and waiting until then. I like that! :)
That is great! We are probably moving too in August! Once I get into the college.
Great move..:)All the best with shifting!!
♥ Chaitra
Congrats! Can't wait to see picturea!
How exciting!
Hope it all goes smoothly!
you two are in the same boat as dimples and i are. AND our move date is the 27th too!
Yay! How exciting! I won't be ready for my own house for a long time. Too much work!
Good for you for not buying just to buy! You still have plenty of time!
I just stumbled across your blog. Goodl uck on your new place. We have visited Michigan the past couple years and it is so pretty there. We especially loved South Haven, Petoskey, and Sleeping Bear Dunes.
congrats....I think you're doing the right thing!
Congrats on the new place! Very exciting.
Yay for your new move!
I'm getting ready myself to move...across country! eekkkkk!!
I think you two are playing it very smart! Very smart. The hubby and I have a plan also, and so far -it's going as planned and then we will be able to afford a reeeeeal nice home :) Can't wait!
Congrats!!
Hey, I'm a first time blog reader :) Congratulations on the new house and a fun new beginning!
Congrats!! We rented an apartment for a year, and then a small house for two years--we wanted dogs and couldn't have them in our apartment. There are oftentimes I miss living in an apartment! Good luck with the move and getting settled into your new place--that's always exciting!
You know, I hate the stigma that renting gets. I rented for a long time. A house is a huge financial commitment, and just because it is a great investment doesn't mean that it is always affordable. Look at the housing crisis now. So many people bought houses beyond their means and are paying for it now. You guys made a great decision.
