1. It's not about me anymore, but we. You really do become one when you get married. When Garth is hurting, I'm hurting.
2. Compromise is a beautiful thing.
3. Forgive quickly. Unfortunately, the person we love the most is usually the person we hurt the most so it is essential to express your feelings, admit when you're wrong, forgive and forget!
4. Communication really is key. Don't keep secrets and don't be afraid to talk about anything and everything.
5. Clothes on the floor does NOT mean they are dirty.
6. Listening is just as important as communicating. Really listening is one of the keys to a happy marriage.
7. You start acting like each other. Now that I've been living with Garth for over 2 years I cannot sleep without the TV on and Garth can not go to bed with a dirty kitchen. We definitely rubbed off on each other.
8. Being comfortable with someone and able to truly be yourself around them is amazing.
9. Marriage is about being better together. From the beginning my prayer has always been that Garth and I serve God stronger together than apart. It's what we want our marriage to reflect and we strive for this everyday.
10. Laundry NEVER ends.
11. House hunting will teach you a lot more about your spouse and yourself. I never knew how passionate Garth was about a finished basement or how much I adored wood floors.

12. You have to support your spouse no matter what. If it's important to them it should be important to you.
14. Women want affectionate and encouragement, but men want to be shown respect.
15. Date nights should never end. Ever.
16. I believe in happy endings. I believe in strong, healthy marriages. I believe "love never fails" (1 Corinthians 13:8).

This is a great list and reminder for all of us married ladies. #3 is so true and I love #12 & #15. I love that photo of you and Garth walking into the reception!
What a great photo!! It's a great list, I'm "filing" this for the future.
Just beautiful. Love this!! :)
what a great reminder... i needed this today!
Very good lessons learned... you tend to forget the simple basics over the years...
Love this post. I couldn't agree more.
I agree with all of those -- especially about becoming more and more alike and learning about each other during the house hunting phase :)
Marriage is a beautiful thing! Praise God for providing for us in these ways.
Great post Lindsey. It truly does become a we instead of me.
Listening will always be such a huge component of communication. If you don't, how ever can you learn what the other thinks?
I love the verse at the end, it is truly inspirational. Thank you for sharing those thoughtful words!
Your wedding dress is so pretty! I love your list and it's a great recipe for a happy marriage!
Love the list! This is a really great reminder! I love that picture, it is so cute! I think I agree with every.single.thing that you listed, marriage is soo much fun and way better than anyone ever told me!
What a great list! Everything about it is SO true!
Amen to that! Have a Great Day!
#1 is definitely a must to have a healthy marriage. Great post! ;)
After 11+ years of marriage, I can definitely tell you that #15 is so true. It's so important to make time for each other.
I can not live without date night. :)
Love cannot fail. Because God is love and God does. not. fail!
(((HUGS))) Praying for you guys! So nice to see a couple who understnad what true love really is. :-)
I totally agree with all of those!! Especially #7. Now that we've been married for almost 2 years, I find myself telling/making jokes that would usually come from my husband...and then I'm the one getting the "ummmm" looks when no one gets it but Joe. =)
So agree that Date Nights should never end!! It is still just as important if not more so when you are married!! Great list!
Laundry really does never end and even gets worse when little ones arrive. LOL!!! Love the photo of you & Garth!!! XOXO
Fantastic list! I think my favorites are 1 and 7. When you are one with someone, it can no longer be defined by your problem or my problem, whehther you like it or not, it's going to affect both of you! We definitely act and talk like each other now, sometimes I'll just laugh when I hear hubs use one of my signature phrases that I'm sure I made up along the way!
Yes, yes and yes! Great list and so very true! :)
I totally agree with each and every one of these! Fantastic post! :)
#3 is so clutch. I used to be the worst at apologizing. It's gotten much easier with the hubs!
what a great list! you actually posted this at a perfect time. i needed this reminder that it's always me and him, even though this new little being has thrown us for a loop!!
Amen sister friend!
I love this post! :) The laundry comment made me laugh...it's amazing how much laundry two people can make.
You're right: Laundry does NEVER end.
We and our marriages have so much in common!
Great lessons learned :)
So awesome!!!!
Great list. And a hearty amen for #15!! :)
I love love this! I can relate to every single bullet point you listed.
It's so easy for us to get caught up in our every day lives and I love when I come across a blog, like yours :), that whips me back into shape and reminds me just how important the little things are.
I'm thinking I'm going to forward this on to the MR. It's a great reminder for the two of us.
LOVE THIS! And your last post gave me goose bumps! I can't wait to hear what you think of the house. How cool that you grew up loving it!!
This is an awesome list! I love your insight.
I love reading things like this!! :) My husband admitted last night that after 8 years of marriage, I have finally succeeded in turning him into an early bird :)
I wish my husband would understand #5. He has the 5 second rule for food, but not for clothes - if it hits the floor, it goes right into the laundry.
And #10 should say "Laundry (and love) never ends!"
Cute post! Congrats on 1 year together and it was clearly a pretty happy one for you guys!
Love your list! I feel like I should print these out and hang them on my fridge for all of those moments when I want to strangle hubby for leaving yet another pair of dirty socks in the middle of the living room floor.
LOVE these!!! They are SO very true!!
This post is so right on time!! I love your #9 and #13 good post and thank you!
What a great list! In addition to acting like each other, do you find that you start to look alike too??
I miss blog reading! It's so nice to be back :)
This is a great list

YES!!! You need to read the book "Love & Respect". It's so true, what you said. I read that book before we got married and am SO glad that I did!
