Why we do not have cable

This weekend my parents were in Florida and Garth and I had the privilege of house sitting. We had the most lovely, relaxing time! Poor Garth has exams this week so he had to spend most of the weekend studying. So while he studided, I enjoyed having cable! I will admit I was a couch potato this weekend.

I have become addicted to Top Chef, The Real Housewives of Orange County, Millionaire Matchmaker, Designed to Sell, My First Home, and House Hunters. I'm not proud of my obsession with these shows, I know I'm rotting my brain. In my defense, I was productive! I made food, did laundry, shoveled the driveway, played ping pong, and worked out.

Last night I was watching something and Garth tried to get me to play ping-pong (again) and I told him I couldn't because I needed to find out how this show ended. Garth replied, "This is why we're never getting cable! I will never see you!"

I love that you couldn't play ping-pong because you had to know how the show ended.
I so say that all the time.
Well I used to, when we moved I didn't get cable at our new place, but I used to say "Honey, I'll fix dinner as soon as this goes off because I have to know what happens"
And if it makes you feel any better, when we DO have cable, all I watch is FoodNetwork and TBS. Thats it!

Haha! TV is almost as addicting as blogging :-)

But but, ping pong! He he he, I love ping pong. It's like baby tennis.

Nothing wrong with being a couch potato sometimes.

Haha - it is easy to become addicted to shows, and sometimes I think my hubby and I are! I guess at least we get to watch together. So sad, I know!

Oh my goodness! I would so be like you if we had cable. I LOVE TV and I miss it dearly, but I am pretty sure I'd never leave the couch!

I don't know how I would live without cable! However, he could still see you because of the amazing invention of the DVR. You can still live your life and watch your shows when you have time. :)

haha! Same here. We don't have cable either.. although our digital converter box thing gave us way too many new channels.. :)

Live.Love.Eat said...

Hah, I keep my favs to a minimum for this reason. And ping pong? I LOVE ping pong!!!!!!

I've got three letters for you: DVR! It's the best invention EVER! BEcause we can stop for whatever, and come RIGHT back to whatever show we left off on. ha ha

PS: I love how you listed "played ping pong" as a way you were productive. ha hah a

We don't have cable either! The one year we had it was when we got it for free (in an on-campus apartment) and now other than the Food Network I don't really miss it!

I totally understand w/this situation. We had DirecTV for a year, and when we moved, we just canceled it. It has been almost a year now with us just having the basic channels (abc, nbc, fox, etc) and I do so much more stuff. I used to be addicted to all of those same shows, but not anymore. I only watch LOST & the news now. Everything else I watch on DVD or I just don't watch it at all.

That's hilarious! Our tv was out in the living room for three days and I actually LOVED it! We ate at the table and actually talked...what a concept!

That's why we don't have it, either! Not only do we save money, but we actually read books ;-) It's a good thing Lost and 24 are on broadcast tv!

I'm not sure how you live without cable...I know that I did for a LONG time, but now I'm not sure I'd survive. Love Real housewives...and HGTV

Jules said...

Sounds like you had a good mix of productive chores and tv...no harm in that :)

Reality TV can be so addictive! One of my goals this year was to cut down on my TV time. I don't watch that much anyway, but I've tried really hard to limit it to just a few hours a week. My husband, on the other hand, watches TV pretty much every free moment he gets. I would love to not have cable so I could spend more time with him!

TupeloLove said...

That's hilarious! I get addicted to shows too, you just can't help it!

We don't have cable either and people look at me like I have 2 heads! I don't know where I'd get the time for such a thing...I barely have enough hours in a day to watch The Bachelor, Biggest Loser and The Office!

I love my simplistic life :)

I did not have cable until hubby moved in. Some days i enjoy it other days i think how productive i could be without it.

We don't have cable either. We watch enough TV as it is, and we know cable will make it much worse for us. :-)

Mary said...

I love every single one of those shows too! Talk about a waste of my time, but I am so addicted!

We don't have cable either. For us, it isn't worth the money for the few shows we'd watch. While I enjoy certain shows, I would rather do other things, like projects, read and blog. I think it's just priorities. =)
