For the Love of Dogs!

I seriously want a dog. It's too the point where I think about getting one all the time. I talk about it to Garth constantly, to which he replies, "please stop talking about it or you're going to make me buy you a dog." I know it's not a good time for a dog. We both work full-time, we love to travel, and go out with friends so a dog does not necessarily fit into our lifestyles right now. BUT I still just want one.
This all started months ago when we were bored and headed into a pet store. I held this adorable puppy and fell in love. Seriously. I did not want to let him go. He cuddled in my arms and started to fall asleep. Too cute! But the dog I was holding was the most expensive in the store and he wasn't a pug (my fave). I still wanted him but Garth's self-control got us out of the store without a dog in tow.
So we decided I needed to stay away from pet stores. Well, we arrived at B Dubs early Friday night. So I suggest we walk around the nearby pet store. Garth hesitated but gave in. They had a pug!!! He just looked at me with the cutest face I ever saw. I wanted to take him home so bad. The petstore workers asked if we wanted to hold him. I said yes, Garth said no. He proceeded to take my hand and drag me out of the store. The workers called him a meanie as he led me away.
I still think about this face:
How could you not love him?!

Get a dog! Sorry, Garth. We both work full time and travel too but you find ways to make it work. I take Piper to junior high youth group with us and my parents and friends puppy-sit when we are out of town. Piper is in his crate during the day and really does not mind. He sleeps all day and is ready to play when we get home. If you get a smaller dog, they are very portable and can go anywhere with you.

I know a couple of good breeders and I think there is a pug rescue group in the area (I've seen them at Pet Supplies Plus).

when we got our puppy, we were both working fulltime, and maintaining a long distance relationship. As a result, jaco(my one year old mutt) loves car rides, and likes to sleep during the day. I wouldnt trade him for anything, and he is one happy puppy! Crating a dog during the day is NOT a bad thing, they come to feel that their crate is their little den. When jaco gets scared (thunderstorms) he goes to his crate, because its his and he knows it!

Awww, pugs are so cute! Love their eyes.

But you should get a puppy from a rescue, not a pet store or breeder. Rescues will have every breed imaginable...even pugs! Check out petfinder.com - you'll really want to take one home, then.

I did the same thing with my boyfriend. Now I have the sweetest little puggle ever.

Oh my gosh! What a cute puppy!!! At the present time the thought of taking care of a pet is absolutely the last thing I would want to do, but I would totally break down if I entered a pet store.

We are in the same boat! It just wouldn't be fair for us to get a puppy right now.

Beagles are my fave but I have been wanting a pug companion for Sadie Jane. You should get a dog.. Jim didnt want one at first then he fell in love with our Sadiebaby.

Pugs used to be my most favorite ever!! I loved them as a kid. It's so hard to keep your heart hard, especially when you don't want to!

I'm glad I'm not the only one to mention it, but you should definitely check out shelters or rescues. Especially considering some of the health deficiencies that pugs can have, you could end up with just as cute mutt without the problems? Maybe that's wishful thinking, but I'm a sucker for shelters!

Okay - so we walked into the Humane Society to just look around and walked out with Janie the Basset Hound. I am so glad too! It can be challenging, but we still get to do everything we want. However, I would recommend getting a dog instead of a puppy unless you have time to stay home with it and train it. We got Jane when she was a year old, and it has been pretty great!
