Defend your wife.

One of the best parts of being married is having someone who is always on your side. Knowing Garth will defend me and fight for me is resassuring. Luckily, it doesn't happen to often but I will never forget the time Garth really fought for me.
Flashback to a few months ago. I was at the gym walking up the stairs to the elliptical just minding my own business when a trainer calls to me, "Hey! My 8:00 cancelled, would you like me to train you?"
Now, I should let you know that I do not have any desire to be trained by a male. Call me old fashion, but it just makes uncomfortable.
So, I politely decline and start to turn around. But oh no. Mr. Trainer starts saying there are no strings attatched, and asking why I would turn down a free session. He continues to get more obnoxious until people are starting to look at ME. Embarrassed and not wanting to cause a scene I oblige.
He trains me, and it was a pretty good workout. Then it gets bad. He asks me to come into his office and he starts pressuring me to sign up for more sessions with him (What happened to the "no strings attached?!"). I think of every excuse in the book, but he continues to persist. Finally, he says "I will make you a deal. $300 for 8 sessions, that is a really good value. You can't say no to that." To which I reply "Well, I would need to talk to my husband about this before I pay that kind of money." Mr. Trainer's all "You don't need to talk to your husband, he won't mind." Oh no he didn't. Wait, but then it gets worse. I'm all "No, I need to talk with my husband." And Mr. Trainer says, "Look, obviously what you're doing isn't working and you need a trainer." I am so mad at this point I make a lame excuse that I'm late to work and get out of that gym as soon as possible.
I call Garth crying and go through the whole ordeal with him. And my knight in shining armor is so mad he goes down to the gym on his lunch break to talk to the manager, but the manager isn't there. But he sees Mr. Trainer and he gives him a piece of his mind. Garth is all "Why would you try and pressure her to spend money without talking to her husband? And what right do you have to tell my wife what she is doing isn't working?!"
Mr. Trainer was so frazzled and apologetic. My husband has never been sexier than at that exact moment.

Go Garth! Don't you love that?! I remember one time we were in a bar and this guy totally grabbed me and not only did my husband fight the guy, his friends jumped in! Mind you, my honey isn't the biggest guy out there and the other guy was HUGE! I'm talkin' probably 6'3, 225 big!

Wow, what a rude trainer. I love it that Garth defended your honour!! Mr B did it for me to recently... our not-so-nice-old-bat next door stopped me as I was on my way to work and shouted at me for Mr B parking in front of her garage (that she never uses) for 5 minutes while builders were unloading outside our house. She was so rude and when I got to work I called Mr B and told him how upset I was because of how she'd spoken to me. He went round to her & told her not to speak to his wife like that again! What wonderful husbands we have :)

xx

GOOD for Garth!!! Yaaay! :) I bet it was incredibly sexy and pleasing to see how he stuck up for you!! Don't you just love that feeling of protection? It's one of the reasons I date a professional fighter. ;)

Good for Garth for doing what he did! And I agree, that is TOTALLY sexy!!!!

I just love when Greg stands up for me. You're right, nothing is sexier. Greg is super quiet and usually non-confrontational, but when someone crosses that line with me, he is the first one to jump up and put them in their place.

Brett Alexandra said...

awww, so sorry you had to deal with that Mr. Trainer! SO glad your man stepped in:)

Erin said...

Love it! Man, that guy was a total creep.

After we got married my Hubs paid off my credit card and I called to cancel it. They guy refused to do so and told me that Hubby didn't need to know - that way I could keep the account open and buy stuff I wanted without him knowing.

Seriously? He wouldn't see those Visa payments in Microsoft Money?

Christie said...

I'm glad Mr. Trainer got put in his place- he had no right to treat you like that. The added bonus of a "knight in shining armor" moment for your husband is great!

AH! I am fuming!

First off...I totally agree about the male trainer thing. I don't want one, no matter how good they are, and I'm a trainer.

Second, that pressure thing is so tacky and not cool. Many gyms outlaw that kind of pressure except for a few that are notorious for their poor PT programs (I won't name names, but the industry knows who they are.)

And second.."What you're doing isn't working?" I want to punch him in the face. That's disrespectful, judgmental, and flat out wrong. I seriously doubt his judgment. You're gorgeous and in shape and any one can see that! Jerk!

I'm so glad Garth told him off, because if not, I would have wanted to!

(Sorry! I get totally steamed about this stuff since I work in the industry!)

Lucky in Love said...

That is the sweetest thing ever!! You have a really great guy on your hands.

A similar thing happened to me. A new male trainer started at the gym and kept talking to me everyday I was there. He was always wanting me to let him train me and I, like you, tried to think of everything I could to turn him down. Once I mentioned my husband, though, he stopped pressuring :)

Breadwinner Wife said...

Wow, that is awesome that he went down there to defend you! That is really frustrating that a trainer would feel he has the right to say those things and try and pressure someone, after saying, "no strings attached." He needed to be told something!

Justine said...

Good for Garth!!!! I can't believe the trainer said that to you!

OH MY GOSH! My mouth dropped open reading that. Your husband ROCKS!

Newlywed Next Door said...

First of all -- Way to go Garth!

Second of all -- this happend to me in High School. I was on a machine and trainer comes and starts showing me how to "do it right" and then he said "you really need some personal training session" all pressuring me. Not as bad as yours, but still left me feeling like crumb leaving the gym. Reason #821 why I hate the gym.

Megan said...

What a jerk trainer! I would STILL have Garth talk to the manager..he is obviously pressuring clients and THAT shouldn't happen--especially when he's saying "what you're doing isn't working!" What a JERK. ..but WAY TO GO GARTH!!

Unknown said...

Yuck, Mr. Trainer. Yuck. And yeah Garth for being a rocking husband!

Perfectly Imperfect said...

Ok first of all.. I cannot believe that guy acted like that! Are you serious?! I would have lost it.

2nd of all... Way to go Garth! Not going to lie, I love it when my hubby goes to bat for me. It is so hot!! Yep.. I said it =)

Garth is a real man and I love when Geof comes to my rescue too! I think trainers that give you the hard sell at the gym are some of the most obnoxious people on earth. I am sorry that happened, but glad it had a happy ending :)
